one night, while out on a date with eddie downtown, the two of you ran into karen and ted wheeler walking down the street. you exchanged pleasantries and small talk before the married couple was reminded of something.they needed a babysitter.
nancy and mike were rarely home and the adults were trying to rekindle the flame they'd lost long ago. it wasn't like holly was a handful or anything, but they still thought you may need a couple more hands on deck so they suggested eddie could help out as well, as mrs. wheeler rambled on about how she loved young love like yours.
you and eddie happily agreed as it meant more alone time for the two of you. so it was settled. you said your goodbyes as the two of you walked away from the older couple and to eddie's van.
that night was the beginning of you and eddie becoming the wheelers go to pair of babysitters, and the two of you never complained. you loved watching eddie interact with the little girl. he was great with kids. and he loved playing house with you.
tonight was no different.
the wheeler parents were heading downtown to catch a movie and some dinner. nancy and mike were in california visiting the byers so that left you and eddie the responsibility of watching the youngest wheeler for the night.
the two of you approached the wheelers door and knocked. eddie's hand rested on the small of your back as you waited for the other couple. soon enough the door swung open, the pair on the other end greeting you with soft smiles.
"hi, hi, come on in! thank you guys so much for coming over on such short notice!" karen wheeler greeted the two of you, engulfing the both of you in a hug.
"of course!" you smiled.
"no problem." eddie added, moving his hand up and down your back.
"holly is up in her room, you guys can put her to bed at nine tonight, so in about an hour, and we should be back around midnight." ted wheeler spoke in his always monotone voice, lips pursed together in a line.
"sounds good." you said, nodding.
"alright, thanks so much again! if there's any problems, you know where to find us!" karen said, the older couple making their way out the door.
"have fun, you two!" eddie grinned out the door, shutting it behind the wheeler parents as they made their way to their car.
as soon as the door shut, eddie made his way to you, gripping your waist and smiling as he planted his lips onto yours. you smiled into the kiss before softly pushing him off of you.
"not until she's in bed." you said, raising your eyebrows, pointing up to indicate the six-year-old in the room above the two of you. eddie playfully rolled his eyes as the two of you made your way up the stairs.
"y/n! eddie!" the little girl shouted happily, running to hug you first. eddie crouched down to hug the girl back once she made her way over to him, your heartstrings pulled at the sight.
"let's see, what do we have here?" eddie questioned playfully, sitting next to the multiple toys holly had laid out on the floor.
"this is my cabbage patch doll! and this is my
train track! and this-" the girl enthusiastically told eddie about all of her toys, him matching her enthusiasm with his reactions."those are some pretty cool toys, holls." you said, sitting next to the youngest wheeler.
"yeah, i know." the girl shrugged, going back to putting pieces of her train track together. you looked up at eddie, only to meet his already staring eyes, and gave him a smile. he couldn't help but smile back as you played such a maternal roll.
the hour went by fast as the two of you played with holly, stealing countless glances at each other. at nine o'clock, you two put the already tired girl to bed. you watched from the doorway as eddie tucked her in, holly giving him a big hug before she finally went to sleep. he quietly closed the door behind him, making sure not to wake her up.
the two of you silently made your way downstairs and into the kitchen, where you began reading the note the wheelers left on the counter, making sure there wasn't anything else you two needed to do.
seconds later, two hands creeped around your waist, a larger body pressed up against you from behind.
"you know, we've got three hours to spare." eddie whispered, trailing soft kisses down your neck. you hummed in approval as your hand met his hair, playing with it, causing him to let out a groan. he continued to attack your neck, definitely leaving a few marks as the kisses became more aggressive.
you quickly turned around, meeting his gaze and pulled him into you, your lips meeting his. his hands made their way down to the back of your thighs, signaling for you to jump.
he placed you on top of the counter behind you, not breaking the kiss once. his hands roamed up your thighs to your waist, eventually to the hem of your shirt, slipping his hands underneath. you helped him out by removing your shirt completely, slipping off his denim jacket to make it fair.
"not here." he whispered. you nodded, hopping off the counter, your shirt in your hand. eddie grabbed your other hand and led you upstairs to mikes room.
mike constantly made remarks and teased the two of you about your relationship, so this was your silent way of getting back at him. what he doesn't know won't hurt him.
the two of you couldn't keep away from each other as your lips reconnected and eddie led you backwards down the hall to the wheeler boys room. as eddie struggled to find the door knob, a high pitched voice made the two of you jump.
"mike isn't home." the youngest wheeler child squeeked out, rubbing her eyes out of tiredness. she stood at the end of the hallway, gripping onto a stuffed animal.
both your eyes went wide as you immediately released each other and you practically threw your shirt back on. you stepped past eddie, who was still in shock, and put the wheeler girl, who was seemingly oblivious to what she'd just seen, to bed once more.
as you slowly pulled the girls door shut, you looked up and met eyes with eddie, who was still at the end of the hallway with his hand over his mouth. you couldn't help but laugh a little at the situation.
you made your way over to him as his expression softened.
"maybe we should wait until we get home." you said playfully, throwing your arms on his shoulders.
"maybe we should." he laughed, holding your waist and planting a quick peck on your lips. the two of you headed downstairs to turn on a movie and relax for the rest of the night.
you eddie laughed about that night for months. you never told anyone about it. it became one of your many inside jokes.
and you definitely didn't tell mike about it.
