jason carver's house always seemed to be the hotspot for parties senior year. so when you heard he was throwing one this weekend, it was seemingly a no-brainer that you were going to go.you weren't extremely popular or anything like that, but you were friends with a few cheerleaders, being especially close with chrissy cunningham, who was the sole reason you did anything social in the first place. she liked to drag you out of the house and, in her own words, get you to 'live a little'. you obliged without a second thought most of the time. i mean, what's the worst that could happen?
let's just say you definitely didn't account for what would happen tonight.
it was a rather large party, parking your car on the side of the road and observing the line of parked cars ahead. you made your trek to the front door, pulling it open, immediately scanning the scene for chrissy or really anyone you recognized. the music was so loud no one even noticed you walking in, which you didn't mind at all.
"y/n! you're here!" a cheerful squeal rang out from behind you. you turned to see chrissy, arms open. you returned the gesture and embraced her in a hug.
"yup. nothing better to do!" you said, half-joking, over the music. the girl gave you a soft giggle in return when a few of her cheerleader friends came up behind her, saying something about jason. she rolled her eyes at them and turned back to you.
"i have to go deal with something, but, have fun! get some punch, i'll see you later!" she smiled, waving and turning to move through the sea of people.
you decided to take her advice and make your way to the punch bowl, making yourself a cup before downing it completely in one chug. you thought maybe it would make this more bearable. you poured yourself another cup and made your way back towards the crowd.
you made your way through the increasing amount of people, praying you would see someone you knew soon, or else it seemed like you would be leaving early.
a more upbeat song came on, causing everyone to immediately become irritatingly rowdy. you were practically being shoved left to right as everyone jumped up and down to the beat of the music.
the influx of noise and movement was enough for you to accidentally run into some jock with him arm wrapped around a random girl, causing him to spill his bright red drink all over you.
"jeez, watch where you're going, geek!" he shouted over the music sending you an agitated look. he dropped the plastic cup the drink was once in and flicked his hand dry of the excess drink that hadn't attached its self to your cotton clothing.
"sorry, it was an accident, but you soaked my damn clothes!" you shot back. you were not going to let this random guy act like an asshole when he spilled his drink on you.
"who the hell even are you? you seriously mouthin' off to me right now?" the jock yelled, standing up from his seat on the couch to tower over you, attempting to intimidate you.
"yeah, i am, jackass! maybe if you didn't have your head so far up your ass, you'd be able to see me coming!" you yelled back. at this point the whole parties eyes were on the bickering between you two. the jock was obviously intoxicated but that didn't stop him from taking his hands back, seemingly about to shove you.
"you bitch, i'm gonna-"
his actions were interrupted by a tall, long-haired boy balling the neck of the jocks shirt in his hand, creating a barrier between the two of you.
"touch her and i'll break your fucking neck." he spat out, before shoving the jock back so forcefully, he stumbled backwards, falling over the couch, grabbing at his neck and gasping for air.
