Phoebe kept her stupid promise to her mom and for the next four days she didn't leave the house; she didn't get drunk, stoned or just purely intoxicated beyond reach.
But she didn't know how she would get through today sober. It was Tuesday night. For Mike it meant less then a week until school but for Phoebe it was the day before she visited Sydney.
She was sat on the edge of her bed watching Nancy sleep peacefully, Phoebe didn't want to sleep knowing the nightmare would keep her awake if she did, but she was so tired that she couldn't help drifting off when her head finally hit the pillow.
She felt her legs collapse beneath her much against her will. She fell into the arms of Steve him holding her tight to his chest trying desperately and failing to turn her head so she wasn't able to see the act unfold before them.
Sydney screamed as she watched Billy sacrifice himself she scattered forward trying to rescue him and she did. She managed to pull his larger body from the mind flayer whispering a i love you before the mind flayer ripped its arms into her stomach.
Sydney died thinking she saved Billy. She did not.
Phoebe wanted to look away she wanted to run up but she couldn't she was frozen in Steve's arms watching her best friend get consumed by the evil in front of them.
"It's your fault she's dead.." A voice sounded "It's all your fault Phoebe!!"
She shot up sweat covering every part of her body. She panted running her hand through her now wet hair, she glanced around the room trying to steady her breathing, Nancy was still soundly asleep but Phoebe knew she wouldn't be able to go back to sleep.

The flowers were glued to her hand as kneeled in front of the stone, her vision blurred slightly as she inhaled the scent of the flowers the petals tickling her nose slightly.
"Your favourite Syd." She sighed neatly placed them on the growing pile.
She gently traced her hand over the words etched into the stone.
Sydney Rose Rickets May 17 1967 Jul 4 1985 Beloved daughter gone but never forgotten
Her hands shook as she pulled away "I wish this wasn't real Sydney. I would swap places with you a million times over, i just want to see your smile one last time. It's all i dream of." She cried her hands now furiously shaking in her lap.
"It's been a pretty shit few months, i got stood up for a date a few nights ago and you won't believe who came to the rescue, Eddie Munson. He's a really sweet person you would've loved him." She laughed slightly shaking her head "Actually you probably would've hated him, but he's a amazing person and i really wish you got to meet him. I wish you were here for so many more reasons. I saw Lucille for the first time since your death. She didn't ask any questions and i'm so glad because i wouldn't even know what to say. How do you tell your friend that your best friend died from a monster trying to save her boyfriend?"
She wiped the fallen tears her heart pounding in her chest.
It shouldn't have been her.
"Maybe if i got there a second early maybe if Steve didn't hold me back.. God Sydney i just want you. I need you." At this point she was sobbing her whole body trembling, she just needed her best friend.

Eddie knocked on the door his hands shaking slightly, god he was so nervous, he didn't exactly know why but he was trembling.
The door opened and there stood Nancy Wheeler, wrong twin he thought.
"Uh hi." He mumbled playing with his hands "Is Phoebe home?"
Nancy furrowed her brow noticing the boys nervous state, she shook her head pouting her lips "It's Wednesday, she's visiting Sydney." Nancy simply said.
"Oh.." He sighed now feeling extremely guilty for even trying to find her.
"She'll be back home in a hour or so.." Nancy paused "Or maybe not i don't know.."
"uh.. It's fine i'll come back another time."
Eddie walked back to the van Nancy watching him with every step he took, maybe he wasn't as bad as she assumed maybe Phoebe did like him for, him he seemed sweet enough but Nancy couldn't wrap her head around him. Why do people call him a freak if he's actually a nice person?
Then she did suppose Jonathon once shared that name and she managed to fall in love with him somehow.
Eddie looked at the cassette tape on the passengers side shaking his head "Fucking stupid." He muttered to himself "Nope Eddie you can't do this shit"
He didn't listen to himself and pulled out the driveway heading to the graveyard, he knew he'd regret it once he got there but Phoebe was possibly in her most vulnerable state alone and he couldn't bare that idea.
~~~
When Eddie finally found her his heart broke, it wasn't as broke as hers clearly was but it certainly broke. He took off his leather jacket the cold air dangerous for the girl, he walked over placing a gentle hand on her shoulder.
She whimpered when she saw him her heart breaking all over again, he wrapped the jacket around her shoulders resting his arm over them after.
He didn't hug her. He just held her. And for her that was enough, it was more then enough his touch warmed her, it calmed her even in her most fragile state.
"God this is so stupid. So so stupid!" She cried.
Picking up the flowers she stood Eddie stepping back still not saying anything as he watched her, she threw the flowers forcing them across the over tombstones until they landed down the hill.
"So fucking stupid!" She cried "It should've been me Eddie god it should've fucking been me!"
"Hey hey now.." Eddie whispered "Don't you dare fucking say that."
"It's true god it's all true"
He gently took her arm staring down into her eyes "it's not true. She's with Billy huh? She's fine." He whispered.
She held in a sob looking over the stone next to Sydney's, Billy. She's with Billy.
God she hated him, she hated him so much for making her love him. If she had never fell for the boy with major daddy issues she would have never died.
"They died together." She whispered "So they stay together."
"Yeah.." Eddie nodded.
"Together" She held some feeling of relief. If Sydney really was with the man she loved she may truly be happy.
"It's getting dark, let me take you home yeah?"
"I need weed Eddie." She whispered looking up at him with her doe eyes, he sighed tapping his foot he didn't want to not in the fragile state she was in.
"I don't know Phoebe.."
"Please Ed's.."
His heart fluttered for a second at the use of his apparently new nickname. She watched the way his face tensed as she said that, the way his arms swung slightly and finally the way his face lit up.
"Yeah okay, we'll have to go to my trailer though? Is that okay?"
She nodded taking one last glance at where her best friend lay kneeling down one last time "I'll get you some new flowers i promise."
