1 Day later

Maybe it was selfish, she gave her own life so she didn't have to feel the pain of losing those she loved, in the process of that she left everyone else with the pain of losing her.

"Quinn?" Nancy called out waving her arms frantically to flag down the boy who was clearly distressed in a way, his head turned and that's when Nancy saw the tears that stained his cheeks.

"Nancy..."

Her heart dropped as did her knees, she dropped the floor her body numb as she looked over to the blood that stained the concrete, she then looked up to the boy again who was now stood shaking his head just as Steve and Robin ran around the corner breathless from chasing Nancy.

"They both..." Quinn began "Phoebe she... The bats... Eddie wouldn't leave her and then the ground it just..." He paused letting out a sob "The ground staring shaking and then it opened. It opened right where he was..."

Quinn recited the whole night, from phase one all the way to phase 3 and then ultimately, the sacrifice. He left out minor details not wanting to break the girl anymore then she already was but Nancy was persistent on every detail, she needed to know what her sisters final moments were and then she needed to explain to her mother why Phoebe wasn't coming home.

But she managed even with the heavy pain in her chest, her eyes snapped to the rip in her home and then to her mother and father who were waiting anxiously for Nancy to speak.

"Where is she, Nancy? Is she safe?" Her mother asked tapping impatiently on the glass of water that was clutched tightly in her grasp.

Nancy held back a sob in her throat, she looked towards Steve who slowly nodded and then she braced herself to give her parents the worst news that they would ever receive.

She reached into her pocket pulling out a necklace everyone knew all too well, the sun reflected against the ring dangling from the chain signifying it was in fact Phoebes necklace "Mom she... Phoebe didn't make it."

The only sound heard after the news was the clattering of glass and then a ear piercing scream.

"No no no." Karen recited shaking her head as though that would make the pain go away "Not my baby. Not her."

"Mom..."

"How? Nancy how?" She begged reaching for the necklace in her daughters hand.

"When the earthquake... It was the earthquake."

After what seemed like hours Nancy finally had the courage to leave the room, leaving her mother to sob in her dads arms. The heavy feeling of grief drowned her as she walked up the steps Steve following close behind her.

"Nance you shouldn't do this too soon..." He tried to warn her as her hand hovered over the door knob, she shook her head reassuring him she was okay.
