The air around the Malfoy dinner table was slightly awkward. Both Mia and Mason decided to go home for Easter, but their little brother stayed at Hogwarts instead.
Draco and Katherine sat at either ends of the table, while the twins sat next to each other, facing the eldest Malfoy kid.
Arvin – who visited his family for the Holiday – cleared his throat. "So... how's Kaden?"
"Why should I know?" Mia crossed her arms. "He has his own life, and I have mine. What he does is none of my business."
Katherine frowned. "He sent me a letter saying that he would rather spend the spring break at Hogwarts with Albus," she explained.
"Shocking," Mason commented sarcastically.
Mia snorted, which made him smirk slightly.
Staring at the two of them, Arvin blinked. "Are the two of you... on better terms now?" He asked slowly.
"Of course." Mason nodded. "We're the bestest of friends, aren't we?" He nudged Mia.
She rolled her eyes. "Well, I suppose we do not hate each other."
"I'm so happy!" Katherine clapped her hands together. "I was hoping that this day would come!"
"Yes, well," Draco fixed his tie, "it is nice to see the two of you get along. But anyway, how's Amber, son?"
Mason's face fell. "Have I... have I not mentioned it yet?"
"Mentioned what?" His father furrowed his eyebrows.
Swallowing, Mason shifted on his seat nervously.
"They broke up a while ago." Mia decided to answer for him.
"What?!" Draco's eyes widened. "Why? Did something happen?"
Mia pursed her lips, knowing that it wasn't her place to explain her twin brother's situation any further.
"Well," Mason gulped, "I suppose I realized that I'm not into... people like her."
Understanding what he meant immediately, Arvin's eyes widened, but he decided to remain silent.
"What do you mean?" Draco narrowed his eyes in confusion. "She seemed lovely, what's there not to like?"
Rubbing the back of his neck, Mason thought about how he should continue the conversation.
"She," he emphasized the word, "is not exactly my type..."
Trying to keep a straight face, Mia grabbed her brother's hand under the table and gave it a little squeeze.
Everyone around the table understood what he meant, except from Draco, who had a hard time comprehending his son's words.
All of a sudden, his mouth opened. "Wait, do you mean that you're... Are you –"
"I am." Mason nodded. "If that makes you feel disappointed, then I'm sorry, but –"
"As if!" Katherine waved her hand. "That's nonsense, right, Draco?" She gave him a pointed look from across the table.
He opened his mouth to speak, then closed it again. "Well... To be honest, Amber was a bit – uh – well, she wasn't perfect, but I thought you genuinely liked her, so I didn't say a word."
Mia grimaced. "Is that so?" She muttered bitterly. "I did genuinely like Alexander, yet you still had something to say..."
"I apologize, Mia," he looked at her. "But it doesn't matter now anyway, does it?"
