Taking a deep breath in, you sat at the edge of the helicopter and let your legs dangle in the air. It made you feel like you were about to crash any minute, but at the same time it didn't really matter anymore.

All you needed was to feel something, even if it was the feeling of falling.

Next to you, a shadow moved.

Thinking it was either Bell or Woods, you ignored it.

Woods settled next to you.

"Don't fall.", he joked and wrapped his fingers around the rope that stretched across your chest and back.

Huffing softly, you closed your eyes to enjoy the cold wind.

"That was fun.", you said. "Felt like a fieldtrip to your hometown."

A low huff escaped him.

His eyes turned towards the moon.

"Yeah... I almost forgot how it looked like.", he hummed, a bit down.

You knew he hated to talk about his past because it wasn't something good to remember.

He had been a homeless teen and even before that time his life had been anything but nice.

After the relationship had taken a serious turn, you had insisted on meeting his parents.

Maybe you had hoped they would be better than yours.
Maybe you had hoped to be able to take his family as a replacement for your disturbed, fuck up one.

But reality had turned out to be way worse.

His mother was a poor woman under the control of a tyrant.

And his father was abusive.

It had surprised you that Woods had turned out decent with parents like this. Yet again, you weren't all fucked up either.

"I'm sorry that I made you visit them.", you let out a deep breath. "I though... it could be fixed."

Shaking his head, he hummed.

"You never listened to me."

You smirked.

"Most of the time. But... I don't know. I thought it would be sad if... when we marry, no one of us would have family there."

His face softened. All of a sudden, he looked like he was remembering the good parts of the past.

"Would that have ruined the day for you?"

"No... No. Truth be told, I'm glad they turned out as terrible as mine."

He frowned sarcastically.

"Cruel."

A soft chuckle brightened your face. You opened your eyes to look at him.

There he was.

Woods.

The man that was the one and only you've ever felt comfortable enough with to say yes. Every relationship you've ever had before him had been a solid one, serious and mature. But you never wanted to marry. Not until this idiot had entered your life.

You had always joked, if you'd ever marry, it would be Woods.

It made you sad to think about the harsh reality.

You had failed him.

And he had failed you.

"I'm not glad that you have terrible parents.", you said, snorting. "But I'm glad that... you never asked me about mine after meeting them. You just... understood."
