A sharp ringing tone filled your ears.

Groaning, you squeezed your eyes shut and rolled onto your back. Heat bit your skin.

Nausea pressed against your skull.

It felt like every single bone inside your body was sore.

"Fuck...", you gasped and had to cough. "I can't believe that worked..."

Next to you, Adler managed to get on his feet.

"We've gotta go.", he huffed. "Now!"

But as you tried to get up, you slipped and fell.

The feeling of liquid dripping out your ears crawled over your face.

"I- I can't... see...", you forced your eyes open.

The world was spinning. Everything was covered in a thin veil of water.

It was bright, so bright that seeing hurt your eyes.

In the distance, the sound of aircrafts cut through the raging war.

"Oh... shit...", you cursed.

Not a moment later, the earth was shaken by explosions.
Adler grabbed you by the shoulders.

Screaming in pain, you wanted to break free.

But his grip tightened. With his remaining strength, he pulled you through dust and Soviet corpses.

Blood soaked into your clothes.

Another bomb hit. The shockwave was so harsh that not only the earth was shaking.

Grabbed by the force, he lost his balance and fell.

His grip on you didn't loosen, however. Instead, you were pulled with him and slammed into the edge of the stairs.

A sharp pain pressed into your ribs. It felt like they were about to snap.

Like a sack of wet sand, you rolled down the stairs, one edge hitting you after the other. As you hit the ground, all the air got pressed out of your lungs.

Coughing, you twisted and turned in pain.

Adler forced himself up. His hand grabbed you.

"No time!", he coughed. "Get up. Get up!"

Shaking in pain, you forced yourself to straighten your legs and get a hold of your balance again.

"I'm running!", you gasped while blood dripped from your nose.

"Into the cellar!"

"Right behind you!"

With shaking legs you managed to run past the entrance of the cellar.

Again, the ground shook and a wave of dust hit you. Small pieces of stones and soil stroked your cheeks.

It felt like the world tried to swallow you.

The cloud made the air go thick.

Breathing scratched inside your lungs. A cough made your chest shake.

Blinded by the dust, you stumbled through the room. Something hard hit your foot.

Your eyes jumped down, but you quickly reminded yourself not to look down.

All you'd see would be corpses.

"Push through!", Adler called through the dust.

Squinting your eyes, you let out a groan.

"I'm trying to!", you shouted. "Where's the fucking exit?!"

Again, the earth started to shake. This time, it made the ceiling shake as well. Rocks and dust came raining down. Pulling your head in, you stumbled on in hopes a gush of wind would lead the way.

All of a sudden, something grabbed your ankle.

Struck by surprise, you stumbled and fell.

The ceiling shook.

As your eyes jumped up, you could see cracks running through the red stones.

"Fuck!", you gasped and wanted to jump up.

But someone was still holding your leg.

With your heart beating like crazy, you tried to shake the hand off.

But the grip was surprisingly strong.

An exhausted sigh filled your ears. Without looking, you reached out for a gun that was still stuck inside a dead soldiers holster.

The head of a wounded Soviet appeared. His eyes were shaking. He was covered in blood all over.

The ceiling trembled. The bombers were doing their worst to the city and its surroundings.

Large chunks of bricks came crumbling down. They hit the floor, burying the corpses underneath.

Panicking, you tried to kick him off.

But his other hand snapped forward, clutching a knife. The blade was about to pierce yours flesh as a shot suddenly rang out.

With his eyes wide open and blood pouring out of his forehead, the soldier dropped dead.

Holding your breath, you managed to tear the pistol out of the holster and load it.

A shadow chased through the dust.

You fired a shot as a warning.

The shadow fell to the ground.

"Fucking hell, mushroom!", Frank cursed and crawled into sight. "That's the first time you really tried to kill me."

He grinned.

Whimpering in relief, you dropped the pistol and pulled him into a kiss. He was covered in dust, dirt and sweat, but in that moment you felt like he was the most perfect being this universe had to offer.

"The second time, actually...", you said and smiled.

Grinning, he wrapped his arms around your torso and picked you up in one swift movement.

"You told me the axe was an accident.", he said in a playfully offended voice and turned on his heel.

"Let's not go there.", you joked.

He huffed.

"Oh, we will. But before that, hold on tight."

Breathing heavily, Frank managed to rush out of the church before the ceiling came crumbling down and the entire building collapsed in itself.

A cloud of dust swallowed you two whole.

Squeezing your eyes shut, you wrapped your arms around his neck.

Frank fell to his knees, pressing your back to the ground and covering you for protection with his own body.

The shockwave rushed over you like the wave of an ocean crashing with land. You could feel how the force made something inside you shift.

A cold shiver crawled down your spine.

Holding your breath, you held tightly onto him like he was the only thing that mattered.

The beating of his heart pressed against your cheek. He was holding his breath, but his body was trembling anyways.

"Frank...", you whispered as the air started to clear. "Are you..?"

His black hair was covered in a thick layer of dust. Small rubble was stuck to his clothes.

A low groan made his chest vibrate. Slowly, he popped himself onto his arms to get his weight off you.

His bright blue eyes met yours.

"You're not getting rid of me that easily again.", he grinned. "Are you hurt?"

Relived, you shook your head and pulled him in for a kiss.

"Fuck, I thought we won't make it.", you gasped and couldn't help but laugh.

"I doubt that. You're like a cockroach. Hard to kill."

"Just so you'll have to suffer.", you smirked.
