"I don't think she's into nice guys."

A voice said from behind me. Carl was blocking his body, but I already knew who it was. It was the way Carl's body tensed up when the voice spoke. The flash of fear that appeared in Carl's eyes. Only one person could do that. Kenji. Carl turned around.

"What?" He asked.

"You should've just gone home like she told you to." Kenji sighed. "Now we've got ourselves into a problem."

I moved out of Carl's way and stood in between him and Kenji.

"Doesn't have to go like that." I told Kenji.

He shrugged. "Why not?"

"Who the hell are you?" Carl asked.

"I'm the boyfriend who treats her like shit." Kenji smiled.

Carl seemed like a little turtle crawling into his shell after Kenji finished that sentence.

"I-uh." Carl breathed heavily.

"Now, Carl." Kenji dug his hands in his pockets. "What were you going to do to her once you got your way inside her apartment?"

"T-talk. We were going to talk."

"You weren't going to try anything?"

"No man. I-I swear. I-"

"No man. I-I-I-I" Kenji mocked him. "Shut the fuck up." He looked at me. "Go inside."

"Ken-"

"Now."

I sighed, turning around and unlocking my door. I went inside and shut the door. Locking it behind me.

"H-Hey what are you doing?" I heard Carl ask Kenji.

I  heard Carl try to scream, but Kenji was doing something to make him quiet. After that, cries from Carl. And then silence. Complete silence.

~.~

It had been about thirty minutes to an hour of me waiting patiently until I heard Kenji come in. Lights were turned on and shoes were left at the entrance. He stepped in the kitchen, washing his hands. I watched him from the couch. He dried his hands with a cloth and exited the kitchen.

"Missed me?" he asked.

"Why did you kill him?"

"He messed with what's mine. We couldn't have that."

I sighed. "So you killed him for no reason."

"There was a reason."

"Kenji, he has a family." I stood up, raising my voice.

"His parents were addicts and gave him up. He was adopted by an older woman. Gloria. She raised him and now she's in a nursing home. She has dementia. Trust me, she barely remembers him. She'll be fine. She was a widow. No siblings. Parents dead. He had no other family. No friends either. I already got it covered." He shrugged.
