"jesus mom, for the last time this isn't necessary," bokuto sighed, one hand wiping his face.

"of course it is! how am i supposed to expect grandchildren when you won't even go out on a date?" his mother nagged over the phone.

"i'm 28, i have plenty of time to settle down in the future, but at the moment i'm kind of preoccupied with my work."

bokuto knew this explanation was no use, he had used it various times before to no avail. he and his mom compromised on many things, but dating was not something they saw eye to eye on. while all bokuto wanted to do was focus on expanding his company and making it the best he possibly could, all his mom wanted was some little gremlins running around the place.

"28 exactly! prime time to start a family! if i didn't bug you about this, you'd make me wait til i'm 6 feet in the ground to give me grandkids!"

bokuto winced at his mom's wording, "okay, i get the point mom, no need for the depressing talk."

"perfect, glad you see it my way," his mom chirped, the tone contradicting her previous dark statement. "remember, 7:30 o'clock tonight at the ithaca! the girl i've set you up with is very lovely! comes from a nice wealthy family, good education, and-"

"okay, yes i get it mom, 7:30. i'll be there don't worry, love you."

his mom sighed, obviously not happy that bokuto was not taking it as seriously as she was. "i love you too. please at least try to make this work, okay?"

"of course," and with that, bokuto hung up the phone.

he leaned back in the chair and crossed his arms over his chest. he didn't know why his mom tried so hard, it wasn't like bokuto was going to die alone like she worried, he just didn't see the need to rush into a relationship just for the sake of it. it's not like he was going to find true love anyways with some probably arrogant woman who was just as forced to come to the dinner as he was.

a light knock sounded at the door.

"come in," bokuto huffed sitting upright. he hoped it wasn't kohona once again coming to bug him for the third time in the hour.

'but i get lonely sitting in my office with no one to talk to,' kohona whined.

'yeah, well i don't,' bokuto reminded him, shutting the door.

"hello bokuto-san," akaashi walked in, a folder and computer tucked neatly under his arm. he took a seat on the other side of bokuto's desk, placing the folder on the large, black-wood table. he opened the computer, the light casting onto his face.

"kuroo-san said he wants to meet with you at 7 tonight to talk about some marketing projections he received on your joint project," akaashi said, his eyes focused on the screen.

"fuck," bokuto groaned out, "can you tell him to move it to some other time? i already have something planned for tonight."

akaashi took his eyes off the computer, an eyebrow quirking at bokuto. "you don't have anything scheduled though?" he questioned.

"just tell him it's my mom playing matchmaker as per usual," he sighed.

akaashi hummed in acknowledgment. bokuto had explained to him before about his mom's wild fantasy of playing cupid. this wasn't the first time one of her little dates have been a hinderance to business matters.

the other's eyes scanned across the screen. "sorry bokuto-san, he seems pretty dead set on speaking with you tonight."

"god this is so annoying," bokuto sighed, his fingers tapping against the desk.

"i'm sorry, i'm sure it has to be difficult trying to please your mom and keeping up with business."

bokuto wasn't sure if akaashi was actually being sympathetic with him or if he was just trying to be nice, it was kind of hard to read the younger and what he was truly thinking.

"is there any way you can get your mom to reschedule?" akaashi asked.

"no, while kuroo may be intent on wanting to meet tonight my mom is even more intent that i go on this date. i think the only way i'd be able to get out of it is if i drop dead," bokuto chucked bitterly. "it's either that or i miraculously find someone to date within the next 4 hours."

'actually though,' he thought, his eyebrows furrowing, 'that's not a bad idea...'

"what?" akaashi must've caught on to the way bokuto's expression changed.

bokuto broke out of thought, his eyes scanning over his secretary.

'bingo.'
