akaashi was ready by 7. in-fact, he was actually ready by 6, but he wasn't going to let bokuto know he spent the last hour in a panicked state.

he stared at himself in the full length bedroom mirror for what seemed like the millionth time that night. every single flaw about him seemed to be highlighted as his eyes searched his own reflection: the way his eyes seemed dull from the lack of sleep, the blotchy texture of his skin, the way his hair stood up in awkward directions, and the single creased fold in his pant suit due to the suitcase.

"keiji, are you good to go?" he heard bokuto yell from the other room.

"yeah i'll be right out!"

akaashi took another quick glance, a sigh escaping his frowned mouth. he walked through the connecting hotel door into bokuto's side of the room.
the other was playing around with the sleeves of his blazer, pausing at the sound of the opening door, his eyes meeting akaashi's.

"wow...you look great," bokuto complimented his eyes raking over the other.

at the simple comment akaashi felt as though all his flaws melted away, "thank you, you also look amazing."

"are you good to go then?"

"all good," akaashi confirmed.

akaashi was vaguely familiar with the restaurant they were at. he had gone there a few times with his parents but the inside decor had been renovated sometime over the years. the place was infamous for it's seafood and akaashi was no stranger to the fact that the place was a 3 star michelin restaurant. he wondered how hard it was to get a reservation that same day considering how booked the restaurant always was, but then again he remembered how influential bokuto actually was and assumed the reservation was as easy as cake once they figured out who was calling.

the two were seated in one of the restaurant's various private booths which was nice considering it blocked out any noise level and view from other diners. though maybe that was a bad thing because it meant quite a bit more face to face intimacy than akaashi was prepared for. sure the two had many private moments before, but under the newly found context of going on a date, it made akaashi anxious.

the waiter came over and took their order. they didn't put prices on the menu and akaashi figured it was to not scare off customers with how over-the-top expensive the food was. the waiter thanked them then left.

"yknow, for us dating for like 5 months, this is the first time we've actually gone on a date, without my mom," bokuto joked.

akaashi laughed, "i thought we agreed we've been dating for almost 4 months prior, so we'd actually be going on 7 months now. what a great fake boyfriend you are," he joked back.

"ah my bad, fake dating is harder than it used to be," he sighed. "hey, it all worked out though because my mom stopped nagging me about finding someone to settle down with. though now she switched to nonstop nagging me about 'oh, how is akaashi doing? when am i seeing akaashi again?' i don't think she's once started a conversation with asking me how my day was going since we started 'dating,'" he said finger quoting.

"i like your mom though, she's very nice from what i've seen with the few times i've spent with her."

"yeah, you can say that since you're not the one being bugged all the time," bokuto countered.

"i guess that's fair, i'd certainly rather it be you and not me," he chuckled. "but i'm sure that's just her way of showing you love and that she cares about you."

"that's what i figured which is why i can't get mad at her for it."

they paused their conversation as the food came out. the two had agreed upon getting the 8 course meal the restaurant offered as it seemed to be the most popular choice. bokuto let out a low whistle as the appetizer was placed on the table and akaashi had to agree with him. the presentation was amazing and the aroma that surrounded them was a heavenly delight.
