the three sat at a restaurant booth, their bodies tired from a long day of nonstop work. the photoshoot was essentially completed, taking an overall 8 hours for just the pictures themselves. kohana was not an easy man to please and his complex standards showcased that.
"thank you again for coming on such short notice oikawa-san," bokuto expressed.
"just oikawa is fine, no need for formalities with me," he smiled kindly. "and it was no big deal, i'm used to the time crunch. you should really be thanking keiji there, he's the reason why i agreed to coming."
"of course, i'm insanely grateful to akaashi for saving my butt on this shoot."
"well i want this launch to succeed just as much as the rest of us," akaashi reasoned. "plus oikawa needed to pay back a favor to me."
"y'know, you keep mentioning this favor but i haven't actually heard what oikawa did to owe you," bokuto laughed.
"oh god, here we go again," oikawa groaned in embarrassment already knowing what was to come. "whatever he tells you just know he's exaggerating it," he whined.
"exaggerating it!?" akaashi repeated, "you made me walk home by myself at 2am!"
"i've walked home plenty of times by myself in the middle of the night, you were fine!"
akaashi shook his head turning towards an amused bokuto to tell his side of the story. "about 4 years ago this jerk wad of a friend over here forced me to go on a double date to a party with him just because he was too scared to go by himself."
"hey, at least i made sure your date was hot!"
akaashi ignored him and kept going, "but then this bastard ended up hooking up with his date, leaving me alone with the other dude even though oikawa knew i didn't have any interest in him. even worse the guy kept trying to talk to me and get all handsy," his face scrunching in disgust as if the memory happened was only yesterday.
"not my fault the other guy couldn't resist your beauty."
"yeah, well it was your fault because i ended up not being able to take it anymore and had to walk back home at 2 in the fucking morning in the middle of november. i thought i was going to die."
"but you didn't! plus i think it was a good thing in the end because i'm still with the guy i hooked up with after all this time," oikawa defended.
"yes, and i don't know how iwaizumi puts up with you. he must be a saint or something," akaashi sighed. "but do you see what i mean now by how he owed me a huge favor for putting me through all of that?"
bokuto couldn't help but laugh at the scandalized look and tone of akaashi's voice. "yes, i understand your point completely."
oikawa whined again, "this isn't fair, he's just taking your side because you're dating."
akaashi felt bokuto stiffen up beside him as akaashi looked away, "i told you we're not actually dating, we're just acting like we are for his mom."
oikawa blinked, "oh, i thought you were lying about that and was just using it as a coverup because you didn't want to admit you actually liked someone."
akaashi's cheeks hued more, "you're infuriating, do you know that?"
"mm only when i liked to acknowledge it, but otherwise no," he replied cheekily.
a light buzzing noise sounded, interrupting the conversation. bokuto frowned as he reached into his pocket, sighing as he saw the caller ID on screen. he apologized quickly before answering.
"what is it kuroo?"
kuroo spoke on the other end, but it was too muffled for akaashi to make out anything. though by the look on bokuto's face it didn't seem like any good news.
"okay, i'll be there in 10, stop freaking out so badly you sound like a baby," he complained.
with that bokuto briskly ended the call and grabbed his jacket that draped the back of the chair.
"sorry, kuroo needs me," bokuto apologized.
he dug in his coat pocket before grabbing out a rectangular black piece of plastic.
"here, pay for the food with this," he said handing it to akaashi. "sorry to end things so abruptly, it was nice getting to talk to you oikawa and hear about your guys'...interesting history," he laughed.
they said their goodbyes, the two watching as bokuto walked out of eyesight.
oikawa peeked over at the card that akaashi now held in his hand, a whistle sounding from his lips as he got a closer look.
"damn, his own personal card and he's entrusting it with you. you must be special to him then," oikawa noted.
akaashi rolled his eyes, "no, it's because i'm his secretary and he trusts me with important stuff like this."
"yeah, well i have my own secretary and no way in hell would i trust him with my personal card, much less a black card. just admit it, you two have something more going on."
"i've told you, there's nothing going on. you're delusional."
"the guy's good looking i'll give him that," oikawa hummed changing topics. "he has to work out or something with that back of his, you can see the defined shape even through the work shirt. there's no way you don't find him attractive."
akaashi didn't answer.
"what, do you not find him attractive?" oikawa pressed.
"...well it's not like i don't find him attractive..."
"ah-ha! you do like him!"
"oikawa, how many times do i have to tell you that finding someone attractive and being attracted to them are two entirely different things," akaashi groaned.
"oh no, i understand that perfectly well, but you my friend are attracted with a capital 'A.' i know you better than anyone else and i know how you get when you have a crush. you get all flustered whenever i make some embarrassing comment around them and your eyes always look at them when you think they're not paying attention. but guess what, i'm always paying attention, and i've got you keiji-chan, crush handed!"
"this is so stupid oikawa, i do not have a crush on my boss," akaashi griped.
"hmm you might not recognize it now, but you'll realize it eventually," oikawa said, a sly smile surfacing.
