"absolutely not."

"please akaashi! you're my only hope to get out of this hell!"

"mind my brashness but you're being quite overdramatic. a date isn't going to kill you," the younger stated.

"you don't understand though! my mom is unrelenting with these dates, she won't stop making me go on them until i actually find someone and god knows how long that'll take. this is just a uh...temporary solution until she's satisfied enough."

akaashi's face remained unimpressed.

"you'll benefit from this too!" bokuto switched gears. "you always have to reschedule my meetings and stuff because my mom always plans these dates during other events! if you agree to this, you'll no longer have to keep switching around my schedule!"

"i guess that is true..." akaashi mumbled. it was annoying having to change bokuto's entirely daily, sometimes weekly schedule to accommodate to his mom. it took him multiple hours and a multitude of extra emails sent out just to reschedule.

bokuto nodded vigorously, "like i said, it's just a temporary solution. we fake date for a few weeks, at most a month. then i tell my mom we broke up due to our differences, whatever that may be, and then she'll see i'm too affected by our relationship to want to date someone else for a while so no more dates. we both benefit from this!"

akaashi shook his head, "that still doesn't give me a convincing reason to...ahem...date you," he said, a look overcoming his face. "i need a better reason than that."

"...i'm your boss?"

"dating you is not apart of my job description bokuto-san," the younger deadpanned.

"fine, i'll give you a 10% raise."

"15% and it's a deal."

akaashi thought about it for a moment before a small smile crept onto his face.

"well, i guess i'm your boyfriend now."

-

"hi mom, how are you doing?" bokuto spoke over the phone.

"hmm you seem happier now," his mom noted ignoring his question. "did you come around to the idea of the date?"

"um, yeah well about that..."

his mom sighed over the phone, "for the last time, i'm not cancelling this date just because you don't want to go on it."

"no! no! it's not that i don't want to go on it, well i mean i guess i don't but it's- it's just that i can't," bokuto said stumbling around his words.

"can't?"

"yeah well you see...it's just that....wow this is a lot harder to get out than i thought it would be," bokuto muttered.

he wasn't sure why he was so nervous. he was just telling his mom he was dating someone, albeit fake date, but same premise. maybe it was because he was worried that his mom will see right through his little lie and he'll be stuck doing blind dates for the rest of his life time.

"oh my gosh, will you just spit it out son," he could practically hear the eye roll in his mom's voice.

"i'm dating someone."

'cat's out of the bag now bokuto...' he internally grimaced.

there was silence on the other side of the phone. god, the silence made him feel queasy. he felt like he was 10 years old all over again telling his mom it was actually him who broke her prized lalique crystal vase and not the family dog.

"are you now?" there was no distinct tone in her voice, nothing to tell bokuto whether she was happy about the announcement or not.

"yes, i am," he replied back trying to sound as confident as he could.

"interesting..." a hint of suspicion slipping into her voice. "what's the lucky person's name?"

"uh, akaashi keiji."

"hm, a lovely name," his mom added. "and why didn't you tell me of this akaashi before right now?"

"well, i wasn't sure how'd you react to me dating a boy," bokuto stated.

he was smart enough to already come up with answers to any questions his mom may have had about his fake boyfriend. he was mentally thanking himself that he did because surely he would've fumbled the question otherwise.

"hun, we've known you also liked boys since you were 17, there was no reason to hide it from us," his mom scolded, though there was a softness in her voice that told bokuto that she understood his worry.

"i know, still a little nerve wracking," bokuto measly laughed. he cleared his throat, "does that mean i can get out of tonight's date then?" he tried to sound indifferent to not raise anymore suspicion but inside he was mentally praying.

"mm i suppose..."

bokuto could've cried tears of joy at those words.

"but don't think you're getting off the hook, i wanna meet this boyfriend of yours sometime over dinner!"

'oh fuck me.'
