I cracked my eye open, only to see nothing but an abyss of darkness. My skin crawled as I checked my surroundings, when I noticed a large source of warmth surrounding me. I felt a hand around my body, pulling me extremely close. After a few seconds of processing, I noticed that the surface I was lying on was definitely not a boat. In the pitch black, I felt around with my hand, noticing that the warmth underneath me was nothing but a human.
I had woken up and found myself entangled in Eddie's arms, my head rested against his chest as he lay fast asleep. As much as I wanted to rip away, the warmth of the body was sending electrical waves throughout my whole body, bringing me a sense of comfort. But I quickly snapped back into reality as I sat up, losing his grip and taking off the tarp covering us.
He groaned as he awakened, becoming aware his surroundings, his eyes adjusting to the sudden brightness that was beaming into the room.
As I stepped out of the rusty boat, he mumbled, "You okay?" He resisted his previous state of slumber as he sat up, looking around the now-bright boat house.
"Yeah," I muttered. "Sleep well?"
"No," he said bluntly.
"Oh."
I stared at the floor for a few seconds until something hit me, the nightmares. I'd been having them non-stop until last night.
A sense of relief filled my veins, "Hey, I didn't have a nightmare!" I said ecstatically, my mood suddenly shifting.
"That's great," he yawned, turning onto his side, pulling the tarp back over his head.
"Hey!" I growled, pulling the tarp away again, watching him squint as his brown eyes shined brightly from the reflection of the shining sun.
He groaned, sitting up on the boat as he glared at me."What?" He snapped.
"Someone's clearly not a morning person," I retorted jokingly. "We've got stuff to do today."
"Like what? I cant leave this shit shack and neither can you until the others decide to get back," he stated in return, waving his arm around as he spoke.
"Good point..." I sighed. "Well we could-"
"Go back to sleep? I agree," he said smugly, gripping the tarp and getting ready to pull it back over his head again.
"No wait-" I said, hurriedly stumbling back over to the boat, grabbing the tarp before he could sling it back over himself. In the process, I felt my foot get stuck underneath the boat, causing me to lose my balance. I tried to regain it, but to my misfortune, my legs gave out and I fell straight forward, tumbling into the faulty boat.
I winced, cursing under my breath as I fell on top of the particular boy, my rib cage hitting the edge of the boat in the process. I suddenly realised that something had caught me after my fall, Eddie's hand was wrapped around my waist and I could feel his silver, chunky rings digging into the skin on my back.
I felt his chest move up and down as he chuckled, causing me to crack a smile in which I tried to hide.
"Whoops," I muttered, as I sat up, the boy sitting up with me as well. I was left dazed as I looked at him, but before I could say anything Eddie snapped his head towards the door.
"Did you hear that?" He said, removing his hand that was unknowingly still on my waist.
"Hear what?" I asked hesitantly.
He clenched the half broken beer bottle as he stood up, rushing towards the window as he panted heavily.
"Shit," he whispered. "Oh shit."He turned to look back at me, but before he could the rusty door suddenly thrusted open.
