hello! for this chapter, I recommend playing the song "Heaven Knows Im Miserable Now" by The Smiths :)
You don't have to, but it's a cool touch to add to the experience of the chapter! Hope y'all like<3~
It had been a couple hours since I woke up, and I'd been constantly on edge after what Max said last night. My mind was fogged with thoughts, anxiety taking over my body as I thought about the brutal way Chrissy had died. But that wasn't the only thing on my mind, I found my eyes always making their way back to Eddie and my mind thinking back to him whenever I lost my train of thought.
In boredom, my eyes scanned the room before they landed on an object I hadn't noticed before, a cassette player. It looked old and faulty and it was hidden away in a corner, probably a layer of dust covering its surface.
"Shit!" I cursed excitedly, springing to my feet and walking over to the object. There was, in fact, a thick layer of dust accumulated on top of the cassette player which I brushed off.
"Hey, look at this," I called, presenting the object to Eddie, who was sitting on the boat, a cigarette in between his fingers.
"Cool," he stated, a blank expression on his face.
"Pass me my bag," I said smiling, turning to face the dusty object.
"Why?" He asked.
I turned around, glaring at him. At this, he rolled his eyes, grabbing the bag and throwing it to me.
"Thanks," I said, grinning at him sarcastically.
I unzipped my backpack to reveal the several cassette tapes, picking up one of my mixtapes and placing it inside. Exhaling, I clicked the 'play' button with anticipation, hoping that the cassette player would work.
I squinted, waiting for the music to start playing, and with a slightly faulty audio to it, the audio began to play.
The tune bounced off the walls of the boat house and I turned around with a grin, looking at Eddie as he raised his eyebrows at me. I walked over to him slowly, putting my hand out to him in a cheesy manner. He looked at me strangely before I spoke up, "Shall we?"
'I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour
But heaven knows I'm miserable now'I kept smiling at him as he stared at me, and I sent him a pleading look. Groaning, he gave in, putting his larger hand on top of mine as I pulled him up from the boat. My right hand stayed clasped with his left as I placed his other hand on my waist, and I placed mine on his shoulder.
'I was looking for a job, and then I found a job
And heaven knows I'm miserable now'"Really?" He said, staring down at me.
I nodded, still smiling as we began to dance to the music. I spun us around, causing my foot to stomp on top of his."Ouch," He whined, looking down at his foot.
At this, I kicked him in the shin, causing him to revert his attention back to me. Better.'In my life
Why do I give valuable time
To people who don't care if I live or die?'I held his hand above my head as I twirled. He did the same, ducking so that my arm would reach over his head. His face stayed blank as he tried to suppress his smile.
