"Ow, Wesley"

"Well hold still if you don't want me to poke you in the eye" Wesley urges as she finishes applying my mascara.

"I'm sorry, just out of practice" I pull away to blink the tears out of my eyes.

"I know it's been a while since you've really dressed up but I'm happy you're trying" she smiles making me roll my eyes.

My mom refused to cancel my birthday dinner that she planned with Abel after I expressed, I just wanted to stay home and maybe order out but no. She wants me to get out the house since I haven't been out in months so now, I have to pretend to have fun for her sake. To be honest this is the first time she's shown this much interest in my birthday not that she doesn't give me cards of money though this year is a little different. She actually gave me a present.

"Mom wouldn't take no for an answer" I stand up to look in the mirror and I take my pinky to dab the corners of my eyes. "Perfect as always" I compliment my make-up making Wesley smile.

"Thank you and I'm glad she didn't. You live in a new country, you should be exploring your new home"

"I'm sure it's no different from the states out there. They just have free health-care and weed is legal"

Her head tilted to the side, she messes with my hair, "Nava I used to know would kill at the chance for an adventure being in a new place"

"Well, this Nava is a little more reserved" I give a sweet smile before turning to leave the bathroom though I come up short when Abel comes in.

"Hey, you girls just about ready? You're beautiful, Nava" he says when he sees me and I feel a blush creep up my neck.

"Thanks" I mumble as Wesley comes up.

"Yep, she's ready to party"

"It's just dinner" I sigh.

"Yes, a dinner party" she gives me a look. "Oh wait, let me pee first. Everyone out" she starts pushing me and Abel backs up so we can step outside the bathroom. The door shut behind us, Abel takes this chance to take my hand.

"You okay?" He smooths his thumb over my knuckles.

"Yeah. You know how I am about today" I look down at the floor and Abel cups my chin with his finger to see my eyes.

"If I remember correctly, I gave you the best birthday party you've ever had" he smirks making me smile.

"Yes you did. It was very memorable" I agree peering into the mirror that's beside us. "I wore black last year too"

"You did" he pulls me close to wrap his arms around my waist and my heart flutters a little. Like I promised, I've been acting like we're okay so my mom doesn't start wondering about us though Abel has been taking advantage touching me whenever he can.
