Meira was pissed. The Cullens had left Bella behind, and they never even tried to contact the poor girl. About two months had passed since they left, and Meira hadn't heard much from Bella, other than her screams each night when she had nightmares. To try and ease Bella's pain and talk to the girl, Meira talked to Bella about her abilities, but Bella didn't really say anything to her. Bella kept to herself, and Meira gave up after a while. Bella didn't want help, and Meira wasn't going to waste her time trying to force help on the girl.
While dealing with the Bella situation, Meira often took time off to go and see Emily and the others. She had finally gotten to talk to Leah, but it wasn't much. Leah was still rather closed off. Leah didn't like any of the guys touching Meira though, even if it was a playful shove or a jokingly exaggerated kiss to her hand when she sang or cooked for them. Meira swore she could hear growls coming from the girl, but she never really questioned it.
Meira had also talked to her sister a few times, but poor Bean was having a hard time. Apparently her mother was being much more cruel and mean that she had been in a while, especially to Bean. Courtney was never really mean to Bean, other than keeping her from her other family, but it seemed the woman had started acting even more erratic recently. Meira kept in touch with her sister as much as she could, just in case something happened and Bean needed her.
"Leah wants you to meet her outside near the water." Emily commented, causing Meira to nod.
Meira quickly left the house and went to the beach, where she seen Leah sitting in the sand waiting on her. When she arrived, Leah stood up and brushed off her shorts and legs.
"I wasn't expecting you to call me out here." Meira commented, and Leah nodded.
"Meira, I have a lot to talk to you about. I need you to hear me out though." Leah replied, causing Meira to nod as well.
Meira and Leah walked along the beach, as Leah sighed and thought about what she was going to tell the girl.
"Meira, do you know anything about the legends here in La Push?" Leah asked, and Meira nodded.
"I know a bit, but that was because Bella and Jacob told me most of the legends when we hung out." She replied, causing Leah to sigh a bit in relief.
"Well, the legends are true. The guys and I, we're shapeshifters." She said, causing Meira to nod.
"I'm guessing that's why you all share the same tattoo." Meira commented, and Leah chuckled.
"Yes, it's our pack tattoo. Jacob Black and Quil Ateara should be joining the pack eventually, according to Sam." Leah added, looking out at the water.
"Leah, why are you telling me this?" Meira asked,"The pack could've told me eventually." She commented, causing Leah to shake her head.
"No, I had to tell you. It was my job, since you're my imprint." Leah stated, causing Meira to furrow her eyebrows.
"What's an imprint?" Meira asked, looking over at Leah.
"An imprint is a soulmate. Our soulmate is chosen for us by our ancestors. Emily was chosen for Sam, and you were chosen for me." She replied, frowning when she seen Meira frown.
"Leah, there's something I need to tell you before we even think of having this go any further." Meira commented, turning to Leah fully.
"You hate me, don't you?" Leah asked, a sigh leaving her lips.
"No, it's nothing like that, it's actually my own secret," Meira replied,"I have this ability. I have for a few months now actually. I'm able to see and communicate with the dead. I found out when I first seen my father's ghost. It scared the hell out of me, but I've practiced since, and I can now communicate and see any ghost that wants to be seen." She stated, causing Leah's eyes to widen.
"That's crazy," Leah commented,"but in a good way. I wish I could do something like that." She added quickly, after seeing Meira frown when she said Meira's ability was crazy.
"It wasn't very cool when I was first learning, but I guess it is now." She replied, and Leah chuckled.
"So do you want to try?" Leah asked, biting her lip.
"We can try this; see how it works. To be honest, I've kind of had a thing for you ever since I seen you for the first time at Emily's." She commented, causing Leah to chuckle.
"I was pretty much the same." Leah replied, and Meira grinned.
Meira and Leah were headed on their way back to the pack house when Meira's phone started ringing. Meira furrowed her eyebrows when she seen the unknown number, but she answered the phone anyway.
"Hello?"
"Is this Meira Cobain?"
"Yes, who is this?"
"I'm detective Davies, I have your sister, Francis here with me. Your mother, Courtney, has been arrested for drugs, child neglect, and child abuse. Your sister told me she wanted to live with you, but for that to happen, I will need you to come down here Ms. Cobain, and pick up your sister. You will also have to sign a few papers to take her into your custody."
"Oh, yes, Mr. Davies, I will be down there tomorrow. Let me grab a few things, and I'll be on my way."
"Thank you Ms. Cobain, have a good day."
As soon as Meira was off of the phone, Meira turned to Leah.
"I need your help." Meira said, and Leah nodded.
"What can I do?" Leah asked, causing Meira to sigh.
"I need you and Emily to find me a house. I'll make sure to have the money sent to you once you find a place. I need the rest of the pack to get my things, and you and Emily can set up my sister's room." Meira stated, making Leah nod quickly.
"I'll go tell the pack, you just go to your sister." Leah said, as she pushed Meira towards her car.
Meira quickly called Charlie while she was in her car and explained everything to him. Yes, it was quite inconvenient, but Meira couldn't leave Bean behind when she needed her most...
