Meira didn't sleep at all that night, so when she went to school the next morning, everyone could tell she was exhausted. There were dark bags evident under her eyes, and she had a small sway in her steps as she walked. She practically avoided everyone, even Bella when Bella had tried to talk to her. Bella had wanted to apologize once again and finally get back to her best friend relationship with Meira, but Meira couldn't feel bothered to even try.
When she walked into her first class, she laid her head on her desk and closed her eyes. She was still trying to understand everything that had happened to her the day before, as well as the small episode she had before she went to try and sleep for the night, but she couldn't explain anything.
*The Night Before*
Meira was washing her face, taking her time to make sure she had gotten everything off of her face. Dabbing her face with a dry towel, she looked in the mirror and sighed.
"You're not crazy." She told herself, but she didn't know if she completely believed her own words.
Walking into her room, she flipped off the light in her bathroom and walked over to her bed. Laying down in bed, Meira flipped on her bedside light and pulled out her notebook to write some song lyrics to eventually make into a song. While writing, she seen something in the corner of her eyes, her eyes widened when she seen her father sitting in the chair in her room.
"Wha--How can I see you?" She asked, but apparently her abilities were still touchy.
She wasn't completely able to control her powers yet, she wasn't able to communicate with her father. She could see him, but he couldn't talk to her. When he abruptly disappeared, she felt her blood run cold. She didn't understand why her abilities were advancing so quickly, but she was determined to figure it out.
*Memory Over*
Meira was awoken by the bell that dismissed class, which didn't surprise her one bit. She knew she was exhausted, so she didn't become too concerned about the fact that she slept through class.
Classes passed faster than she thought, mostly because she slept through her classes. The classes she shared with the Cullens were a little tense, but they continued to watch her with concern as she practically slept through all of class and nothing would wake her, even when children would start yelling or trying to get her attention just because of who she was.
When lunchtime rolled around, Meira grabbed a paper bowl of grapes and quickly ate them, before she walked out of the cafeteria to avoid the Cullens. She didn't know that Jasper Hale was going to be following her through the school. He slowly trailed her, trying to see where the girl was going to go so he could finally talk to her.
Meira stepped out of the school to sit outside, but she felt her heart began to beat out of her chest when she seen someone walking through the parking lot. When the person turned towards her, she felt surprised and a bit scared when she realized it was another ghost. The ghost was wearing what looked to be an old suit, which made the girl wonder who it was and why he was there. When the ghost started stepping forward, Meira felt almost terrified. She quickly backed up, only to trip on the sidewalk that was right behind her.
Luckily for Meira, Jasper was standing on the sidewalk, so he quickly caught her. He could feel how terrified she was, as she looked out at the parking lot.
"Meira." He said, which caused the girl to shriek.
"Let me go!" She cried out, trying to pull away from him.
"No, Meira! What's wrong?! What do you see?!" He exclaimed, holding her tightly.
"Stop! No! He's coming closer!" She screamed, as Jasper tried to see what she could see.
"Meira, nobody's there. You need to calm down. He can't hurt you. I'm right here. You're safe." Jasper said, his voice soothing, so he could try to calm the girl down.
His power didn't always work on her, but he used as much energy as he needed to try and calm the girl down. When she stopped screaming and trying to run away, he sighed and stopped using his power to calm the girl so much.
"Meira--" He began, but all she did was start crying.
Holding her close again, he held her to his chest, her back still facing him, as his arms were tightly wrapped around her. Meira's arms were held against her chest by Jasper's when he was trying to restrain her, so the position stayed the same as he held her while she cried.
"You're safe, Meira. I'm right here." He murmured, listening to her silent sobs.
When she calmed down a bit, Jasper loosened his grip and turned her to face him. Her makeup--what little she wore--was running down her face from her tears. He used his thumbs to wipe away her tears, as he looked down at her.
"Are you alright? What happened?" He asked, trying to keep from making the girl cry again.
"I can see them, Jasper. I-I can see them without sleeping. I can't sleep--I'm so scared they'll be there. Jasper, I don't understand why it's getting stronger so fast." She replied, her voice quiet with a slight crack.
"Meira, you need to get some sleep. Come home with me, we can talk to Carlilse. He might be able to help you, and you'll be able to learn to control it faster. You can sleep in my room, and I can help you sleep calmly. There's a chance we can see what's going on, and we might be able to calm down your ability progression." Jasper said, causing Meira to sigh.
"I really don't want to forgive your family so easily." She whimpered, making him frown.
"Meira, we can apologize hundreds of times and it may never be good enough. Let this be our apology, and we'll help you in any way we can." He replied, and she nodded lightly.
"Can we go ahead and leave?" She asked, causing him to nod as well.
Meira needed sleep, and one way or another, she was going to finally get sleep...
