Meira looked in her mirror as she clipped her necklaces around her neck. After finishing with her necklaces, she looked away from the mirror and grabbed her grey beanie to cover her messy hair. She had been so stressed out for the last couple of days, so her hair was a bit messy, and she swore her hair was falling out from the stress. Looking back up at the mirror to make sure the beanie looked at least a little nice on her head, her eyes widened and she let out an audible gasp when she seen her father's reflection in the mirror. Jumping back and turning around, her eyebrows furrowed when she didn't see her father behind her.
Turning back to the mirror, she could still see him standing behind her. She watched with wide, cautious eyes, as he stepped forward and placed his hand on her arm. She could feel his touch, making her pick up her own hand and place it on top of his. Slowly, her father wrapped his arms around her, and she allowed tears to fall from her eyes. It seemed like he knew she needed a hug, she needed him, and he was holding her together. She didn't understand why she could see his reflection in the mirror, or feel him more than she did before, but in that moment she didn't care.
When the feeling disappeared, she sighed and looked in the mirror again to see that he had disappeared. Sighing shakily, she wiped the smeared eyeliner from her face, applying more to cover what had run down from her tears. Once she believed she was looking normal, she walked out of her room and headed straight for her car. She was pissed at Bella, not only for what had happened during and after the baseball game, but also because the girl was dumb enough to still be going to the prom with Edward.
Meira walked into the school with a permanent scowl etched on her face, allowing everyone to know she wasn't in the mood for their shit. As she headed to her locker, she could hear people whispering and she heard her name mentioned a few times. Rolling her eyes, she opened her locker and grabbed the binder and notebook she was going to jeed for the first half of the school day. Closing the locker, she jumped when she seen Alice standing by the locker.
"Meira--" Alice began, but Meira cut her off.
"What do you want? Didn't I tell you to leave me alone?" Meira sneered, turning away from the pixie-like girl.
"Meira, wait! Please!" Alice exclaimed, as she chased after Meira.
Meira completely walked passed her class and headed into the girls' bathroom to try and avoid Alice. Walking into the bathroom, she seen a girl standing near one of the walls. Her eyebrows furrowed, but when the girl looked at her, she could tell the girl was lost and disoriented. When Meira stepped forward to approach the girl, the girl disappeared into thin air. Meira let out a scared yelp, as she jumped back, bumping into Alice who was standing behind her.
"Are you alright?" Alice asked, eyebrows furrowed and eyes full of concern.
"I-I just--I mean, yes, I'm fine." Meira answered, before stepping around Alice.
"Meira, is something wrong? Did you see something?" Alice asked, causing the girl to stop in her tracks.
"Don't you tell anyone. I'm tired of being the center of attention. I can't deal with any of this right now. I don't need any of these people or your family causing me anymore problems than what I'm already dealing with." Meira said, shaking her head and walking away.
Meira didn't understand why her ability seemed to be progressing when she wasn't trying to make it better. She hadn't practiced, and she hadn't tried to contact her father in her dreams since the night of the baseball game. Honestly, she wondered if all of her stress was causing her ability to progress rapidly and go haywire on her.
Meira managed to avoid the Cullens, after Alice's confrontation, for a few more hours. She was becoming more and more irritated with everything going on around her, which was starting to give her a headache. She was anxiously bouncing her leg, as she picked at the bowl of fruit sat in front of her. The Cullens watched from afar, worried about the girl. They were worried about how she was coping after the baseball incident, but they were also worried about her after Alice had told them about what had happened in the bathroom.
"I can't read her mind anymore. It's like she's blocking me out, or someone else is protecting her mind." Edward commented, causing the others to frown.
"Maybe it's her father. They had a real strong bond. Maybe he's able to protect her mind from you." Jasper said, as he looked over at Edward.
"We need to tell Carlisle that her abilities are getting stronger much faster than we anticipated. If we don't help her, she could end up hurting herself or putting herself in a dangerous situation." Alice stated, and the others nodded in agreement.
"He'll tell us to give her time to cope with everything. We won't be useful if we can't approach her. It's pointless." Rosalie replied, making Jasper frown.
Jasper wanted to help Meira. Even after everything that was said, he still considered her to be his human best friend. He would do anything to protect her, even if that meant invading her space when she wanted to be far away from him and his family. He didn't want to intrude, but he wanted to help her, and she wasn't really giving him many options.
"I'm going to help her. One way or another, she will talk to us again." Jasper commented, though nobody replied, knowing there was no room for argument.
Jasper had his mind set in stone, and he was going to plan out the best way for him to help the girl. He could tell she felt frustrated, alone, and angry, and all he wanted to do was make her better...
