Pre-Twilight: Chapter Thirty-Two

As much as I hate to admit it, that shot in my ass helped tremendously. I feel so much better. So better that I was able to go to school the next day. Thank god it's Friday though. I can catch up on whatever assignments I have missed that Jasper didn't get to bring me over the weekend.

I sit at our usual lunch table, seeing my friends for the first time in what felt like forever.

"She's back!" Eric exclaims. Everyone chuckles at his enthusiasm.

"I am!" I smile at them. I did miss them. My regular human friends. They are a breath of fresh air after being around vampires all the time. No offense to them, but sometimes it's nice to be around people like me.

"How are you feeling?" Angela asks.

"Much better. Wanna know the secret to my miraculous recovery?" They all instinctively lean in closer. "A shot in my ass." It takes them a moment to process what I said, and then they burst out laughing. I glance over at Jasper, and he is slightly smirking. I send him a wink and turn back to my friends.

"That is the best thing I have heard all day," Jess says. Our conversation continues. Mostly them catching me up with what has been going on. Jess suddenly turns to me with excitement radiating off of her.

"We need to go out Saturday night!" That would be fun. Go out with my friends.

"I'm in," Angela says. The boys start to say they're in, too, when Jess interrupts them.

"Girls night only. Sorry boys." They give her their funniest attempts at puppy dog eyes.

"Girls night? I'm definitely in." I respond. "What shall we do?"

"Shopping!!" Jess says. I'm always down for some shopping. "Maybe a movie and dinner?"

"Sounds like a solid plan to me," Angela says. I agree with her.

"What movie?"

"They are playing the movie Thirteen in theaters. Just for a limited time." Jess says. Of course she would be into that movie. I laugh to myself.

"That could be good," I say, looking at Angela for approval of the movie choice.

"Let's do it!" She says.

"Great! I'll pick you gals up around 5:00 Saturday afternoon. We will probably hit traffic, so I think we should leave a little earlier." We nod, confirming the plans. We go back to our random conversations until lunch is over.

The rest of the day passes by quickly. I think I was just too excited to get out of school, even though this was my first day back.

As I walk out of the front doors, Jasper is there, waiting for me by my car.

"My place?" He asks.

"Of course." I haven't seen his family for a few days since I've been home sick, so it'll be great to see them. He opens my door for me and then hops in the passenger seat. And we are off. The drive consisted of us catching each other up on our days and listening to whatever music I had playing in the background. He explained why Alice and Rosalie were not at school. They had to help Esme with something for the house addition. They were adding to the house.

I rush right in when we get there, ready to see my second family. Oh, who am I kidding? They're my family, not a second needed to be added. Alice is suddenly in the room, Rosalie following behind.

"Netta!" They softly scream, running towards me and hugging me.

"We missed you!" Alice says, Rosalie, nodding her head in agreement.

"I missed you two as well. So much." We sit on the couch and catch up, leaving Jasper in the foyer.

After what feels like forever, I finally head to the library to finish some work. I find Jasper there, reading a book, looking handsome as ever. He helps me with my work when I'm stuck on a problem. Right as I finish my work, I yawn very loudly.

I turn and look at Jasper. "Sorry, that was so loud." I apologize, laughing slightly.

"Want to go nap, darling?"

"Yes, please." He picks me up, and the next thing I know, we are in his room. I go into his bathroom and change into one of his hoodies. They have become a staple Janetta nap attire when I nap here.

I walk out and crawl into his bed, him laying behind me, holding me close to his chest. I drift to sleep while he softly kisses my head and rubs my back.
