Lips on my forehead are what wake me up. I smile, already knowing who it is.
"Morning, baby," I whisper, eyes still closed.
"Good morning, darling," Jasper responds, a hint of sadness in his voice.
"Is it time for you to go?" I ask, my mood dampening.
"Unfortunately."
"Please, please be safe," I say, more like begging.
"I will, darling." He kisses the top of my head again. "I will come back to you."
I look up at him and give him a soft, long kiss, wanting to savor the moment. We both know it's already going to be too hard to separate, so Jasper is the one to break the kiss and exit the tent.
I lay there for what seems like hours but actually is only one. I know things are going to get crazy soon, so I need to get a move on. I get my change of clothes out of my bag and get dressed. A tight fit, but good enough for now. Soon enough I won't have to wear these tight ass clothes. I can see sweatpants in my future.
Fixing my shirt, my hands rest on my stomach, rubbing soft circles over the small bump.
Don't worry, baby. I will keep you safe, no matter what.
The moment I step out of my tent, the cold air hits me, and all I have to say is thank god for my vampire skin. That cold air is not going to get the best of me today. I take my time hiking to their camping spot, keeping an eye and ear out for any funny business.
I get to their tents, right as Jacob is walking up to Edward and Bella, eyes full of emotion.
"You're marrying him?" He asks, not making eye contact with anyone. Oh shit.
"Jake..." Bella says, her head turning to Edward. "You knew he was listening."
"He deserves to know," Edward responds. I mean, yeah Bella, come on.
Jacob turns around and starts to stalk off, and Bella attempts to follow when Edward reaches out and grabs her arm.
"Bella—"
"Don't," Bella yells at Edward. "Jake, stop." She yells out as she runs after Jacob.
Once she's out of sight, I walk closer to where they were standing. I choose to stop and stand next to Edward, staring at the same area he is staring at.
"Congrats," I whisper. He turns his head to look at me, but I keep staring ahead, listening to Bella and Jacob argue.
"Thank you." He whispers back.
What can I do?
You can't do anything. I can. By going out there and killing something.
"Fucking manipulative piece of shit," I say out loud. Edward lets out a small chuckle.
"Yeah."
"I hate him so much."
"More than me?" Edward asks, hope radiating from him.
"Yeah," I smirk. "More than you."
It's exhausting to be so on guard around him. Now that I know why I have been so emotional, I have been able to look at our situation more clearly. He has apologized for what he did. I reminded myself of the whole reason he said those things to Jasper. He was just as terrified of hurting us as Jasper was. He, stupidly, thought he was doing what was best. I miss my best friend.
I turn and look at him, wanting to tell him that I miss him, but something is holding me back. He turns his head, our eyes make eye contact for the first time since telling him I hated him.
