"I'm glad we finally have some time to ourselves," Lyvia says, sitting on her couch.
"Me too. Just us two. Like the good old days." I smile softly at her, sitting as well. "I do have to say, I love your new apartment."
Lyvia moved out of her parent's house when I came back from Italy. She realized that our lives in the vampire world were starting, and she needed to be on her own. She is aware that she will one day become a vampire. I have seen it. Alice has seen it. But, unlike Bella, she is in no rush to turn yet. Lyvia wants to do everything she can as a human before she is content with no longer being human. Alice and I fully support her decision. We do joke a lot that she will have to beg Anna for some witchy skin serum to get rid of her wrinkles when she turns.
"How are you doing?" Lyvia asks me.
"I'm okay. Just stressed about tomorrow." I reply. Tomorrow is the day of the infamous battle. I just want tomorrow over with. Unfortunately, because I do not know all the key players on the other side of the battle, I am unable to foresee the future of this battle, just like Alice.
"Yeah, I'm a bit stressed myself," Lyvia says. "Obviously can't be as stressed as you, but still."
"We can both be stressed. Do not discount your emotional experience because you think it isn't as important." She always did that growing up. She is allowed to feel how she feels. Also, if you think about it, her girlfriend and best friend are two key players in the battle tomorrow. She has every right to be stressed.
"Very true." She smiles back at me.
"I've missed you," I state. I really have. I feel like I've neglected our friendship ever since I came back as the new me.
"I've missed you too."
"I'm sorry that I have been MIA on our friendship since I came back."
"Do not apologize. You are still getting used to your new normal. And, you're in your bride era. I know Alice wants to be your maid of honor, but she hasn't seen our wedding book. We have our contracts." We both start laughing at the shared memory. We both signed contracts saying we would always be the other's maid of honor. The signatures are even signed in our blood. We may have been slightly over-the-top when we did that.
"You'll always be my maid of honor." I squeeze her hand.
She stares into my eyes longer, searching for something. I know her like the back of my hand.
"What else is there?" She asks.
"What do you mean?"
"Netta, I've known for as long as we can remember. I know when something is off with you."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Oh yes, you do. And I know it is more than that the Cullens went away to hunt before the battle. You are not some silly woman sad about her man being gone for the night."
"Fuck. You're good."
"No, I'm just your best friend." She smiles and flips her hair behind her shoulder. "Now spill."
"Recently, I've been feeling off. Like emotionally." I start. "Well, I guess physically too."
"Go on."
"Okay well, I've been like super emotional the past few weeks."
"What do you mean?"
"I went off on Edward at the graduation party."
"Oh yes, I remember. I had front-row seats with Rosalie."
"You know me. I'm petty, I'd rather ignore than confront. It felt like I couldn't hold it in."
