Eclipse: Chapter Sixty-Nine

"What happened?" Anna asks as Seth lays me down on the couch.

"That newborn Riley kicked her and sent her flying into the trees," Seth said, voice full of panic. Anna's eyes widened, and she looked at me.

"Janetta, where is the pain right now?"

"M-My side," I respond, "And my stomach." A tear rolls down my cheek.

"Thank you, Seth. I can take this from here." Anna says, her eyes never leaving mine. Seth hesitates for a moment but then decides not to argue with Anna and leaves the house.

"Anna, I'm so scared. Please check on my baby." I beg her.

"Lay still, honey." Anna lays her hands on my stomach again and whispers another spell. I keep quiet and fix my eyes on the window in front of the couch.

After a few moments, Anna's hands come off me and she whispers, "Janetta, listen."

I focus my hearing on my stomach, and the beautiful heartbeat is loud and strong.

"Oh thank god." I sigh in relief.

"You're okay, honey. The baby is okay."

"Why can't I hear the heartbeat all the time?" I want to be able to hear it whenever I want.

"Your baby seems to have the ability to shield itself. I can try and do a spell to keep back the shield."

"Oh, Anna! That would be amazing." She starts to recite another spell, and this one takes a few minutes until she finally stops.

"Now, let's see if I'm really that good." Suddenly, the heartbeat is filling my ears again and it doesn't go away.

"Thank you so much, Anna." She smiles at me. "Now, a question."

"Okay."

"Well, it is more of a doctor question."

"Even better." She chuckles.

"By looking at me, how far along would you say I am? For a human?"

"Hm, probably four months slash sixteen weeks. Your bump is noticeable, but not too big. How has Jasper not noticed it?"

"Uh, you don't want to know." Lingerie. Sexy, loose-fitting lingerie is how I keep him from noticing my bump.

"Gotcha, no more information regarding that topic."

"Four months? Really?"

"I know I said no more information, but this part is a little important."

"Okay..."

"When did you and Jasper start being intimate again?"

"The night we got engaged."

"So, almost two months ago?"

"Yeah."

"Okay, so let's say the baby was conceived that night, your pregnancy is progressing in half the time."

"So instead of forty weeks, it'll be twenty weeks."

"In theory."

"So if I am eight weeks, I am almost halfway through the pregnancy then."

"Once again, in theory."

"Holy shit."

"When do you plan to tell him?"

"Well, it was going to be tonight, but instead, I got hurt."

"Okay, you still can. You're healed by now, by the way."

"Oh, yeah."

"Dramatic as always, Ms. Swan."

"Soon to be Mrs. Hale." I can hear his thoughts now. "Speak of the devil."

"Janetta, are you okay?" Jasper asks, rushing through the door.

"I'm okay. Perfectly okay." I reply truthfully, looking up at him.
