If I didn't know any better, I'd say my body was being burned alive. Jasper described the transition process to me, saying that it is indescribable pain, but this is worse than I could've ever imagined. Every nerve in my body is burning. I'm used to my brain feeling like it's going to explode, but this is on a whole new level.
I wish I knew how long this will continue. It feels like it's been a very long time. Does being in pain make it feel like you've been suffering for longer than you have? If so, I 100% agree.
After what feels like another eternity longer, I can feel the burning starting to subside. Thoughts of what my life will be like now start to flood my mind now that I can think. I'll be a vampire. That's crazy to say out loud or, in this case, think. I'm going to be able to do everything I've seen the Cullen's do. The strength. The speed. The heightened senses.
The burning has finally stopped, except for the burning in my throat. But that will always be there, according to Jasper. I can hear so many things at once. It's slightly overwhelming. I start to focus on one sound. Someone is talking. Close to me.
"I know you can hear me. Time to wake up." It's a woman.
I slowly start to open my eyes. I'm in a room, in what looks like a cabin. It's plain, no decorations. I turn and look at the woman. She looks like she's probably in her mid-thirties. She's got long black hair, olive skin, and bright yellow eyes. She's gorgeous.
"Who are you?" I ask. Woah. My voice. Holy shit. Not trying to brag, but I sound really good.
"My name is Tatiana, but you can call me Tati."
"I'm Janetta, but you can call me Netta. Where am I? What happened?" I'm still slightly confused. My memories of right before my transition are slightly blurry.
"Well, I tore that man off of you, and ripped him from limb to limb." She said that with a slight smirk. Damn, she doesn't sugarcoat anything. "You looked really bad. I brought you back to my cabin and cleaned you up. Your blood was getting everyone at first, but then the venom started spreading and the bleeding stopped."
"How long was I in transition?"
"About four days." My eyes widened. "It can take anywhere from 2-5 days to transition depending on the amount of venom in your bloodstream."
"Damn, that was a long time." I paused for a moment, everything hitting me. "Oh my god. My family!" I look around for my stuff. "Where is my phone?"
"I have it."
"Give it to me."
"I will, but you need to get under control first. We can't have you losing it on your family."
"I guess. Can I text my sister first? She knows everything about vampires."
"I suppose." She walks out of the room to grab my phone. I stand up for the first time. I feel lighter than ever. Like I could stand forever and not get tired or achy. Weird thing to say, but the feeling is kind of indescribable. Tati comes back and hands me my phone. I open it and start texting Bella.
Hey Bells. It's only a minute until I see a response pop up on my screen.
Oh my god, Netta. Where are you?
I'm not sure. Things have happened. I have to stay away for a little while.
Why?
I can't tell you.
No, tell me. You go missing for four days and then text out of nowhere. I deserve answers.
I can't give them to you, Bella. I need you to trust me.
Fine. But Dad is losing his mind. What do I tell him?
Tell him I had to get away for a while. That my phone died and I am just now getting it charged. Tell him I needed to clear my head and get away from my life in Forks. I will be back as soon as I feel I can.
I'll tell him, but I'm not sure if he will let it go.
Well, cover for me. Do whatever you have to.
Okay. I will do my best. I love you.
I love you too.
"All done?" Tati asks.
"All done." I throw my phone onto the bed.
"Good. We need to get started."
"Started on what?"
"Helping you get under control. Pay attention, Janetta."
"Can I ask a couple of questions first?"
"Why?"
"So I can know who I am working with."
"Ask away then."
"How long have you been a vampire?"
"I was turned in 1901. I was 32."
"Damn, you're old." I blurt out before thinking. "I didn't mean for that to come out as bad as it did." She smiles at me and lets out a little laugh.
"I was living in Alaska at the time. There was this guy in my town, who was slightly obsessed with me. During that time period, women didn't have much say as to what they could and couldn't do. He asked me out multiple times until I finally said yes. He took me to see a movie."
"Wait, there were movies back then?"
"Yes, Janetta. There were movies. Silent ones though. Completely boring." I nodded, waiting for her to continue. "Once the movie was over, we got in his car, and he started to drive me home. He pulled over on the side of the road and attacked me. He tried to pull my dress up and assault me. I was able to get out of his car and run into the woods. I heard him call my name and run after me. The next thing I knew, he was in front of me, with a terrifying look in his eyes. He assaulted me and then bit me. He left me there to die, but I guess I wasn't bleeding out as much as he thought, which gave his venom enough time to spread through my system."
"Oh my god. That's horrible. I'm so sorry." I reach out and grab her hand. I start to feel weird. "Something isn't right. I feel very weird."
"What? Sit back down. You may need to feed." My head starts pounding. Fuck. I know this feeling. I haven't felt it in about a year. Here we fucking go.
"I know what's happening. I am about to pass out. Don't worry. It has happened before." My eyes start to see spots, and darkness once again takes over. Just fucking great.
