My morning classes seemed to fly by very fast. It's finally lunch time, and I'm starving, considering I didn't eat breakfast. I have been able to keep the emotions of everyone out of my head as long as I focus on one person. So I've been focusing on the friends I have in each of my classes. Not surprising what they were feeling. You could read it on their faces.
I grab my food and sit down at my table. "Hello, everyone," I say, smiling. They let out a string of hellos and return to eating their food.
I turn to Lyvia. "Tell me all about your date." She instantly lights up and starts talking.
"Oh my gosh, Netta, it was perfect." She goes on and talks about every detail. As she is talking, my eyes drift to the Cullens' table. Jasper is talking to Emmett, and it seems that they are joking. I love when he laughs. He looks like an angel.
"And she took me to dinner after the movie. To this crazy fancy restaurant."
"That's so sweet. Was the food good?"
"Amazing. She barely ate her food, though."
"Aw. Maybe she was too nervous to eat?" We let out a little laugh at that.
"Maybe." She continues to go on about the night as I look back over at Jasper.
He is already looking at me, and he smiles and waves. I smile back at him. He pulls out his phone and types something. I wait a moment, and my phone buzzes.
You look beautiful. I look up at him and smile brightly.
You don't look too bad yourself. He smirks at me.
Too bad? Ouch.
Haha, you will live.
"Are you listening to me, Netta?" Lyvia asks, breaking my focus on the texts.
"Sorry. I am."
"I'm sorry I've been babbling about my date. How was yours?"
I look up, and Jasper is smirking as if he knows. I look away from him and at Lyvia. "It was amazing. Best date I've ever been on."
"Aw. Yay! Obviously, things went well, considering you two were basically sucking each other's faces off."
"Woah woah. It was a peck. Not a makeout session."
"Whatever." She smirks at me. I move my eyes back to Jasper. He is looking at his siblings but smirking. I swear it's as if he heard that. He probably assumed we were talking about him. "From the looks of it, he seems to really like you."
"Yeah. And I really like him too."
"Aww. That's so cute."
"And Alice seems to really like you too!"
"Yeah." She is blushing like crazy.
The bell rings, and we head to our class. The rest of the day flies by just as fast. As I walk out to the parking lot, I see Anna's car sitting in the usual spot. Fuck. I silently walk to the car and get in, ignoring Jasper and his family entirely as I walk by their car.
The car ride is silent. She is feeling angry but not furious like Saturday night. We get home and go inside. As I am starting to walk upstairs, she says my name.
"Netta? Can we talk?"
"Sure." I slowly come back down the stairs and sit on the couch. We sit there a moment until she starts talking.
"I wanted to apologize for yelling at you Saturday night. After talking with your dad, I realized I need to let go. You're not a child anymore. You can make your own decisions. But I'm still going to worry about you." Her guilt is radiating off of her.
"And I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I understand you're worried, but you don't have to be. Jasper is amazing, and I truly believe he wouldn't hurt me."
"And I will trust your intuition." She pulls me into a hug. "I love you, Netta."
"I love you too, Anna." I pull away and look at her. "There is something I have to tell you, though."
"What is it?"
"When Jasper and I left the movie, we were waiting for the car to heat up. I couldn't stand the romantic tension between us, so I kissed him."
"Okay...?"
"And I passed out."
"Janetta! Why didn't you call me?"
"I told him not to before I kissed him."
"How did you know you would pass out?"
"I didn't. I told him that just in case it did happen. Which it did."
"That's why you slept all day yesterday! I should've known." Guilt begins to radiate off of her again.
"It's okay. I woke up, and I was at his house. Dr. Cullen checked me out, and I'm fine."
"Dr. Cullen was there? And he didn't call me?"
"I told them not to remember?" She rolled her eyes. "He tried to take me to the hospital to run tests." Her eyes grew big, and fear began to seep into her emotions. "I had to compel him not to take me."
"Aw, Netta. I know how much you hate using that."
"Yeah. And it didn't help that Jasper was next to me, hearing the whole thing. I had to compel him to take me home because he wanted me to stay there to ensure I was okay." We stayed silent for a moment, letting the information sink in.
"So, what is the new ability?"
"I can feel the emotions of people." She looks at me questionably. "Like right now, I can feel that your emotions are a mix of guilt, fear, and a little bit of anger, which I am assuming is aimed towards Dr. Cullen."
"You assumed correctly."
"Please don't be angry with him. He was doing what he thought was best. I assumed he would tell you anyways, but I wanted to tell you first."
"It's okay, sweetie. I appreciate him checking you out and ensuring you were okay." I nod and sink into the couch. "You okay, sweetie?"
"Yeah. Just the emotions of everyone today took a toll on me. I'm exhausted. I think I'm going to take a nap. I only have a bit of homework, so I'll do it after dinner." I get up and walk to the stairs.
"Okay, sweetie. I'll wake you up when dinner's ready." I go up the stairs and crawl into my bed. It did not take long for me to get comfy, and then I was out.
