~Christian POV~

"I- uh- I just went to get some fresh air." I lied and had a stare off with my mother as if she was trying to figure out if I was lying or not.

"Fresh air." She repeated as if she didn't like the sound of it on her tongue. I nodded my head as my body tensed up.

When I lie, my body heats up and sweat begins to form on my forehead the longer I am in the presence of what is making me anxious.

"Odio cuando me mientes." Mama says and hisses her teeth. (I hate when you lie to me). "I didn't lie mama!" I defended and immediately knew I was wrong for defending my lie.

"You didn't lie? You didn't lie but yet I watched you get out of some jeep Christian. I couldn't even see who was inside of the car. I hope your not doing what I'm thinking right now. You know you should be-" I cut her off from speaking not wanting to hear her anymore and walked past her and straight to my room.

I'm black. Why did I do that?

Mama stormed right into my room with blazing eyes and stared deep into my soul. I sat down on my bed to prepare for all of the shouting that I know will come next.

"Don't you dare... do that again. Check your tone and watch who you are speaking to Christian!! Necesitas aprender a respetar, cuando alguien te está hablando, no te atreves a alrjarte. ¿Estoy entendido?!" (You need to learn respect when someone is speaking to you, don't you dare walk away. Am I understood?)

"Yes." I mumbled and she stood there waiting for me to gain some respect and manners in my response.

"Yes ma'am." I repeated ignorantly and she stormed out of my room mumbling to herself in frustration. I couldn't tell her where I went because she was going to think it was another story that is related to my ex. The relationship was completely toxic and I know that, but yet I continued to go back because I felt confused and trapped in this cycle. My mama made it no better and continued to down talk me each time.

"Christian?" Iyanna peaked through my door after hearing all of the shouting back and forth between mama and I. "Hey." I muttered and motioned for her to come inside.

"What's going on? Talk to me." She softly spoke and sat next to me on my bed to look at me. "I just... mama is just doing too much right now." I stated and she looked at me in confusion. "Christian, you have to understand that she cares. She doesn't want what happened in the past to happen again. That's only if you went out with a boy..." she raised an eyebrow in question. "I did." I hesitated and looked up at Iyanna who was smiling at me.

"What?" I raised a brow and she continued to smile so I gave a small nudge to pull her out of of whatever trance she was in. "You like him?" She asked and I stared at her contemplating my answer. I gave a small nod indicating yes "but as a friend." I added in.

She laughed and gave me a playful head rub and made her way to my room door. "I hope he's a good friend for you Christian. I really do."

Then she leaves.
