Chapter 22: Day 12: Seeing Green:

I remember the running, and the cold beads of sweat trickling down the back of my neck.

I remember the fear that people were going to die. The horror that people had died.

Johnny Storm was gone.

Thor was gone.

It struck me like a knife to the back that I was in the final three. With the Hulk and Iron Man.

I kept running –I hadn’t slept. I wanted to stop but I couldn’t find the will to. Running had always helped me blank out my mind, and it was helping with this at least. Two people had died before my eyes. And I could have stopped it, I should have stopped.

The guilt gnawed and gnawed at me until I ran into a pole –literally.

“Ah fuck.” I rubbed my forehead and my nose. “Fuck that hurt.”

I kicked the pole in frustration before turning around to make sure no one was watching –well, that was stupid. Everyone was watching.

“You right there?” A voice came from behind me, close behind. I jumped, grabbed the gun on my belt, span and pointed it at him. Bruce Banner.
“Don’t come any closer.” I warned, flicking the safety off.
“Estelle, if I was going to hurt you, I would have done it by now.” Bruce reasoned with me, putting his hands up in surrender. I lowered my gun just a little, but didn’t flick the safety back on.
“I guess so.” I nodded, “What are you doing here?”

A silence hung between us for a few minutes and my gun was frozen, pointing at his kneecaps –at least if he lunged for me I’d be able to buy myself a few more minutes.

“I have a proposition for you.” He finally revealed.
“Go on.” I encouraged.
“An alliance –with me. We can take out Tony together.” He suggested.

I dropped my gun to my side. I didn’t want to hurt Tony. But Bruce was right... I needed to get rid of Tony if I was going to go further in this Game –and if I was allied with Bruce, I could just as easily turn on him as he could on me.
