Chapter Nine: The Flea and the acrobat pt. 2

Third Person POV

-----------------------------

"You're supposed to hit the cans, right?" Nancy questioned Jonathan after he failed to hit one of the cans after multiple attempts.

"No, actually, you see the spaces in between the cans?" Jonathan pointed out to the girls as they approached him. "I'm aiming for those."

"We're so dead if you're in the charge of the gun," Natalie remarked, shaking her head.

"You ever shot a gun before?" Jonathan asked, looking over at Nancy as Natalie sat down their bat and mallet that they brought with.

"Have you met my parents?" Nancy scoffed.

"Yeah, I haven't shot one since I was ten," Jonathan admitted to the girl.

"I can tell," Natalie muttered to herself as she watched Nancy and Jonathan flirt unknowingly with one another.

"My dad took me hunting on my birthday," Jonathan explained more. "He made me kill a rabbit."

"A rabbit?" Nancy questioned, intrigued.

"Yeah," Jonathan nodded his head yes. "I guess he thought it would make me into more of a man or something. I cried for a week."

"Jesus," Nancy commented in shock.

"What? I'm a fan of Thumper," Jonathan defended himself.

"I meant your dad," Nancy corrected herself.

"Yeah. I guess he and my mother loved each other at some point, but..." Jonathan paused as he cocked the gun back, "I wasn't around for that part." Nancy gestured for the gun, startling Jonathan. "Um, yeah. Just, uh, point and shoot."

"Make sure you have a good stance too," Natalie spoke up from behind the two. Nancy nodded her head at her best friend.

"I don't think my parents ever loved each other," Nancy confessed.

"They must've married for some reason," Jonathan reasoned with the Wheeler teen.

"My mom was young," Nancy started as she raised the gun up in the air. "My dad was older, but he had a cushy job, money, came from a good family. So they bought a nice house at the end of the cul-de-sac... and started their nuclear family."

"Screw that," Jonathan shook his head as Nancy's eyes fixated on the cans.

"Yeah, screw that," Nancy muttered in agreement before pulling the trigger, hitting the middle can off of the tree stump.

"Nancy Wheeler!" Natalie gasped out in shock. "Who knew you would be a natural!"

"Alright, your turn," Nancy handed the gun over to Natalie. "Show us how it's done."

"I mean you just did technically speaking," Natalie pointed out before stepping next to Nancy to have a better view of the two remaining cans. Nancy blushed at the compliment her best friend gave her and thanked her with a smile. "If it makes you guys feel any better, I have no parents basically. Mom died a few years back, they didn't love each other anyways. All those two care about is work and themselves. Once mom died, dad just worked twenty-four seven and asked Hop to watch over me while he spent countless of nights away. It's kinda sad that I've seen the chief of police more in the past month than my own father."

"Screw that," Nancy and Jonathan muttered together, keeping up their slogan.

"No," Natalie shook her head as she raised the gun up in the air with one hand, "fuck that." With that, Natalie shot off the right can from the tree stump with a smirk on her face. "Thank you, Hopper for the gun skills."
