Chapter Eleven: The Monster pt. 2
Third Person POV
--------------------------"Oh.. Hey," Jonathan groaned awake as he slowly woke up from Nancy's bed.
"Hey," Nancy responded as she flipped through her notebook, scribbling down information.
"Couldn't sleep?"
"Every time I close my eyes, I just..." Nancy began to explain with a slight head shake, "keep seeing that... thing. Wherever Natalie and I were, that place... I think that it lives there. It was feeding there; feeding on that deer... feeding on, uh, Mac... That means that if... if Will and Barbara...."
"Hey," Jonathan sat up more, coming to Nancy's side as the girl began to think of the worst case scenario.
"My mom said she talked to Will. If he's alive, there's a chance Barbara is too."
"That means that she's trapped..." Nancy stated in shock. "In the place. We have to find it again."
"You wanna go back out there?" Jonathan questioned confused.
"Maybe we don't have to," Nancy thought out loud. "When I saw it, it was feeding on that deer. Meaning its... it's a predator, right?"
"Right," Jonathan agreed.
"And it seems to hunt at night, like a... lion or a coyote," Nancy explained. "But it doesn't hunt in packs like them. It's always alone, like... like a bear. And remember at Steve's when Barb cut herself? Mac as well?" Jonathan nodded his head remembering. "And then, last night, the deer..."
"Hmm, it was bleeding too," Jonathan caught on.
"One sec," Nancy muttered as she flipped to a new book of animals. "Sharks can detect blood in one part per million. That's one drop of blooding in a million and they can smell it from a quarter mile away."
"So you're saying it can detect blood?" Jonathan tried to piece together.
"It's just a theory," Nancy muttered.
"We could test it." Nancy nodded her head in agreement. "But if it works..."
"At least we'll know it's coming," Nancy explained before the two of them jumped in fear as the door knob was being rattled by her mother.
"Honey, are you up?"
"Yeah, I'm... I'm getting dressed," Nancy informed her mother, lying.
"I, uh, made some blueberry pancakes," Karen replied back to her daughter.
"I'll be down in a second."
"Your mom doesn't knock?" Jonathan asked once the coast was clear. Nancy laughed at his joke. "Do we ask Natalie?"
"We should at least check in on her," Nancy admitted, nodding her head.
Nancy and Jonathan snuck out the window once they got moving and ready for the day. The pair headed to Natalie's house to check on her. Natalie was doing better today compared to the night she had. Steve had left early in the morning, not sure what to do once the girl woke up. Before leaving out through her window, Steve cleaned up her room while she slept. He took the black trash bag with him as he exited through the window sill and crawled down the side of her house.
Natalie woke up and got ready for the day, trying to act like everything was fine. She thought if she truly believed that everything was okay then she could make it through the day without having another mental breakdown. Natalie changed into her typical clothes and braided her hair into two French braids. Right as Natalie finished wrapping the tiny clear elastic hair tie, Nancy and Jonathan rang the front door's bell.
