STEPHANIE HARRINGTON'S journal was her prized possession. The old book was filled with many different things that made the girl who she was, it held every thought and significant feeling she's had since she began middle school. With pages filled with sketches and her chicken scratch handwriting along with a few other things, like lists and a full page from freshman year that had P+S with a heart surrounding it –because she had the biggest crush on Paul Foreman at the time.
Her journal was personal and it was something that no one was allowed to look in, but for some dumb reason, she lost it.
It was the morning after her run-in with Eddie Munson in the D&D room and she was getting ready to drone on and on about how soft his hair looked but low and behold, the journal wasn't in her bag. This sent Stephanie into a huge panic. If that book ended up in the wrong hands, she was in for a lifetime of teasing and embarrassment from her peers, she was already low enough on the social hierarchy. That book held all of the secrets and experiences she's ever had, good or bad. Like the few pages talking about how Billy Hargrove tried to sleep with her at Tina's Halloween party last year –which was traumatic.
Despite the fact that Billy was attractive, she always got a bad vibe from him and she wasn't letting some douchebag with a shitty mullet take both her her first kiss and her first time. Before this, no boy has ever really shown interest in her, Steve tended to scare them all away before they got the chance. Although as soon as Billy found out she was Steve's sister, he was after her in no time since his life's mission was to piss her brother off.
But even if Billy was the biggest dickwad on the planet, she did feel bad for his family after he died in the mall fire this summer. Stephanie, ignoring all the torment he had put both her and her brother through, had attended his funeral and she saw how torn up Max –Billy's step-sister– was about everything. She was even surprised when Steve seemed to get a bit emotional about it all. She couldn't blame him though, he was there to witness everything in the fire.
After he gained a conscience and –for some reason– began hanging out with Dustin Henderson and his friend group, Steve seemed to act off. She thought, in the beginning, that it was from the heartbreak of Nancy Wheeler breaking up with him, but she soon came to realize that it wasn't only him who was acting strange. Robin seemed to know something about this situation too, but Stephanie couldn't really care less about what they were doing that was so secretive.
The only thing on her mind right now was trying to find that stupid book.
"I'm sure your journal is fine, you probably just left it in your locker," Robin spoke in a soothing voice, trying to assure Stephanie that everything was fine and that she'll find her journal sometime.
The girls were on their way to school, and Steve was in the driver's seat, not paying attention to the conversation. He already heard enough about his sister's damned journal this morning when she ran down the stairs yelling about it, he had to take a Tylenol before getting in the car.
Stephanie shrugged, bouncing her leg anxiously as she thought about the last place she put the object, "What if it isn't in my locker."
Robin shook her head, "If it isn't, then I'll keep an ear and eye out for it okay, we'll find it."
