 ⤷ chapter 009

"PLEASE STEPH, I'm begging you," Dustin pleaded with the girl. "It's just for one night, I swear."

It was Monday morning and Stephanie Harrington's week was already busier than any others she's had since the first week of school. Her weekend was pretty uneventful, Steve had to pick up a few extra shifts at the video store since one of the part-time workers caught the flu. So Stephanie had to spend the weekend in her house, alone, which didn't turn out well after she noticed the stash of ice cream in the freezer and the stack of horror movies Steve had left out from Friday with Dustin. So she spent the whole rest of the weekend watching movies, eating an unhealthy amount of ice cream, and doing homework –somewhat.

She hadn't spoken to Eddie after Friday night, and she was hoping to see him again sometime soon, probably during lunch period since despite being in the same grade, they managed to have zero classes together.

Although she might not even make it to second period if Dustin didn't shut up. Right after she walked into school, he, along with Mike and Lucas, had hoarded around her, but she managed to escape them. Now, as if they didn't have a first class, the boys were waiting outside her classroom to speak to her during the short five-minute break between classes.

Dustin immediately began speaking, at a pace that was hard for even her to comprehend, asking her if she'd like to sub in for Lucas during D&D on Thursday night. Stephanie didn't want to refuse the boy since they must've been desperate if they were asking for her to help them out, but she also had no clue how to play that game either. No clue, as in she didn't even know if this was a board game or a card game. (Obviously, it was some sort of board game due to the setup she saw last week when she was giving Jason his English paper but that's beside the point.)

"Why can't Lucas play again?" Stephanie asked as she put her books in her locker, grabbing the binder for Spanish class, trying to hear the boys out while also not being late for class.

Mike sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose, "He has stupid basketball tryouts."

Lucas smacked his arm, "It isn't stupid."

"Look, I have to get to class, can I get back to you at lunch or something?" Stephanie shook her head, trying to stop the argument that was already starting to brew. All three boys nodded eagerly, watching as the girl slammed her locker shut, sending them an awkward smile. "Also, I'd suggest thinking for other people just in case, because I don't know how to play Dungeons and Dragons."

With that she walked off to her next class, praying that the boys could come up with another person to sub in for Lucas. Stephanie would be a lost cause if they put her there, although she'd still sub in, not wanting to ruin their game.

STEPHANIE WANTED to slam her head against a wall, she had two tests next week and a term project due in a month. A group project. Oh how she loved those, she especially loved her partner which happened to be none other than Mallory Rogers. Karma was really kicking her ass today.

It was now lunch period and Stephanie was walking through the cafeteria with Robin, waiting in line to get their food. Today was burgers and salad –for some reason they're trying to be healthy today– so Stephanie was actually going to eat something from the school, she just hoped that the vegetables were good. Like hell she was eating the burgers, like always, she didn't trust the school lunches.
