This is a love story, it's actually my love story, and before you start with the "Eddie I didn't know you're a romantic" or "Eddie 'the freak' Munson believes in love?" I'm not a romantic and I didn't believe in love, but this girl had completely changed my mind about love.

Yeah, it didn't happen instantly, it's what you call a slow burn type of love. I blame that on myself because personally, I thought I wasn't worth loving. I mean have you seen me? I look like a walking Halloween decoration, getting ready to scare everyone and anyone I come to face with; but I guess not everyone's afraid of me. I have Dustin and his little crew of nerds, I have Steven and Nancy, and the other members of the Hellfire Club and of course, I have Hailey, and so this is where our love story begins.

It was the summer of 1984, It was gonna be my second senior year at Hawkins High by the end of it. I had moved to the outskirts of town with my uncle Wayne when I was seven. It was about a week before school starts, and Hailey Miller moves into the trailer behind mine. Now, I've always been known as 'the freak', and I have been my entire life. I used to have a shaved head and was in a band, well I still am in a band, but we're better than we were and I'm still the freak. Anyways, I was sitting on my windowsill in the afternoon smoking my cigarette and I see her struggling to carry a box from the U-Haul truck parked beside their trailer.

"Hey, could I help you out with that?" I asked putting out my cigarettes and jumping out of my window and rushing over

"Oh, thank you, but I think I'm alright," She said still struggling with the box that was bigger than her and, man was she stubborn

"Are you sure, cause it seems like... in about two more steps you're gonna drop it" I said shrugging and I took the box from her, it was labeled kitchen, so I can only imagine it was a bunch of heavy pots and pans.

"This is a pretty hefty box, I'm surprised you made it this far," I said bringing it in and placing it on the floor in the kitchen, "My name's Eddie by the way"

"We'll thank you Eddie, I'm Hailey" She smiled the prettiest smile I've ever seen, "Um would you mind helping me unload the rest of the boxes?" She asked me, "It's alright, you don't have to, but I could use the extra set of hands. My mom went out looking for a job today and put me in charge of unloading the truck, but as you saw I have no upper body strength."

She chuckled softly and then looked at me, her light caramel tone brought out her pale green eyes, I thought she was absolutely stunning

"Yeah, of course" I nodded and followed her into the U- Haul, "Do you come from far away?"

"Kinda, I'm from the big city of Cincinnati, Ohio" She explained carrying a smaller box, "My mom moved us out here after my pops died, she said the change would be good for us"

"Oh, I'm sorry for your loss" I frowned thinking to myself that it was probably the dumbest question I could've asked and she wouldn't want to talk to me anymore.

"Thank you, he died a few months ago it was pretty rough on my mom, but he's in a better place" She spoke softly, "so Eddie, how long have you been living in Hawkins?"

"My entire life give or take, I moved in with my uncle when I was seven because my parents just kinda decided to leave out of nowhere so he took me in"

"Interesting, so you smoke with your uncle around?"

"Not necessarily, I was just bored and he won't be home till later since he decide to take a day shift today but he normally works nights," I told her

"You're basically home alone all the time?"

"Yeah, but I don't mind it gives me alone time with my guitar"
