. . .
I stayed with Hailey at the hospital for the rest of the week.
Hailey was sore; she said that it was uncomfortable to move but not as bad when she was first here. She was back to walking again by Friday and we'd been taking laps around the hospital to escape the same four white walls she felt trapped in.
We would have little dates in the cafeteria. It consisted of me eating french fries and burgers from there which were slightly better than anything the school cafeteria was able to come up with. She would eat a pudding up or drink a milkshake since she still couldn't have solids yet. I told her about how Cassidy got so upset when she found out that she was kicked off the team. It was Monday when it happened, and she threw a big fit and the whole entire school crowded the halls to watch. I also told her about the band practicing for Tuesday, and that I talked to Phil and we were able to figure things out. Mostly it was me threatening him that I'll kick him out of everything if he didn't get along with Hailey, but of course I didn't mention that part to her.
. . .
She was able to come home today. It was Sunday and it was a good day. I helped her into my van and looked over at her.
"You wanna go on a date?" I asked.
She blushed softly, "A date? To where?" She asked, intertwining her fingers with mine.
"A surprise date. I would say it was a super secret spot, but then again it's out in the open." I shrugged and looked at her, "Are you up for it?"
"I think we should go home first, to change and I have to shower because I smell like the hospital, but after that we can go on that date." She hummed.
"Alright sweetheart," I smiled and kissed her hand and drove back to our trailers.
She looked out the windows, they were rolled down so we could take a breath of fresh air. The drive back wasn't bad, the clouds looked like big cotton balls and the sun was beaming through them. You could tell it was about to be summer.
We got to her trailer and I helped her in, she went to her room to pick some clothes then to the bathroom. I stayed in the kitchen to make some sandwiches and cut up some fruits. I put everything in a backpack and got the big blanket from her room and took it to the van. I then stood outside her bathroom door waiting patiently for her to come out.
She jumped when she opened the door, "I thought you'd be sitting on the couch." She giggled and kissed my lips, "You missed me so much that you can't be away from me."
"It's not my fault my love, being away from you was the worst time of my life, and I might have to be the one to go away." I frowned softly digging my nose into the crook of her neck, kissing her softly
"What? Why?" She asked, pulling away, her hazel eyes looking into mine.
"Uncle Wayne and I are gonna stay at my grandparents house over the summer because it's been a long time and Gramps doesn't think he'll make it."
"Oh." She frowned, "When are you leaving?" The pout on her face is adorable yet unbearable.
"I'll only be gone the first half, and I'll be back here the entire second half and I'll spend it all with you and we can go on little dates to the new mall they're building or the movies and all of that." I cupped her face and kissed her pout, "I promise it'll be over before you know it."
"Alright, but you have to go to the pool party Steve's throwing at the end of the year."
"Pool party?" My face scrunched in disgust.
