. . .

I rubbed my eyes before opening them. When I opened them and turned to face Hailey, she wasn't there. It was Christmas morning and there was a snow storm going on; it was going to snow ten inches or that's what I heard on the news yesterday. I got up and looked out the window making sure it was actually snowing. There was nothing but white and it kept on coming down. I walked out of the room into the kitchen and said 'good morning' to Ashley.

"Where's Hailey?" I asked not seeing her there.

"I thought you two were still sleeping." She looked up at him, "She better not have gone out in the storm." She sighed looking out the window.

Eddie groaned and looked out, her car wasn't there. What could she have possibly needed to do that she had to leave in the middle of a snow storm. She could've gotten into an accident, her car isn't the best for driving in the storm. I was getting myself prepared to leave to go look for her, but Ashley stopped me.

"She'll turn up, it's no use if both of you are out there. Your uncle and I don't need to worry about your safety on Christmas." She rationed.

"She's so stupid for going out in the storm," I said pacing back and forth.

"Honey, why don't you take a seat and have something to eat to calm yourself down." She said placing a bowl of cereal on the dining table and the milk carton next to it for me.

"Alright," I sighed in defeat, since there was nothing I could really do.

Ashley sat across from me drinking her morning cup of coffee, the first of many. I played around with my honeycomb cereal. I didn't eat much of it and it was my favorite. Hailey had mentioned it to her mom, so she bought a box for when I stayed over. Then the door swung open and the wind shut it quickly, pushing Hailey inside.

She stomped the snow off her boots on the welcome rug, "It's insane out there." Hailey chuckled, putting a bunch of bags and boxes on the floor before taking her hat and coat off.

I got up and rushed over to her, "Why'd you go out into the storm?! You're insane!" I said before smashing my lips against hers. They were cold and tasted of vanilla chapstick.

She blushed and pulled away softly to explain herself, "Well, I went out early to beat the storm and get gifts for the people I love. I felt bad for not getting anyone anything, and well it's really hard when you go shopping on christmas morning; there was basically nothing, but I figured it out, and I went to go deliver them and that's when the storm really came down." She looked at me and her mom.

"I was worried about you... we were worried about you sweetheart." He frowned and hugged her, "Never do that again, okay?"

"Babe, I'm fine, really." She patted my back and kissed my neck before going over to greet her mom.

"Okay, are we going to open presents?" She asked looking at us, "Wait, we have to go get your uncle."

I looked at Hailey, "Why don't we wait till the storm settles a bit?" I suggested and she shook her head and went to the phone and called my trailer and invited him over.

"There, he'll be here in five." She smiled and put her presents under the tree. They were all nicely wrapped in the same shiny blue snowflake wrapping paper and she had labeled them each with a permanent marker.

She sat by the tree with her own bowl of cereal as I sat right beside her with my now soggy cereal. I laid my head on her shoulder.

"You wanna play in the snow when the storm stops?" She asked me.
