. . .

It felt like I was waiting for an eternity. I was practicing swinging a bat around when Steve crept up on me.

"Shit." I jumped and looked at him, "What are you doing here?"

"Hope you're not planning to hit me with that thing," He joked, "I uh- I wanted to talk about yesterday, like actually talk about it, Nance." He said looking down at him fiddling with his fingers

"Just practicing," I shrugged, "Can we talk about it tomorrow? I have plans with Hailey" She lied obviously she wasn't going to tell him that about everything that happened after the party yesterday

"You're going to hang out with Hailey, who was flat out drunk and said a bunch of shit, broke up with Peter and went with the freak."

"I am. She happens to be my best friend and she had a right to break up with Peter. He was a total dick to her even before he cheated on her. I was the one who told her she should because I was tired of hearing her cry over a stupid basketball playing douche."

"Does that make me a 'stupid basketball playing douche' too?" He asked with his eyebrows raised

"No, Steve. I just think that maybe you'd have the slightest bit of respect for her." I sighed, "and Eddie Munson isn't a bad guy."

"So what, you're screwing him now too?"

"Excuse me?" I asked flabbergasted

"Nobody defends him, he's a freak." He started, "Plus he took Hailey from Peter."

"Well that 'freak' took Hailey home and made sure she was alright, he doing way better than Peter ever did and they're only friends" I explained and felt my eyes roll automatically, "I'd reconsider the way you think so highly about Peter, he isn't all that great."

"Nance, ever since yesterday you've been acting off, and I don't know if it has to do with me, or something Hailey said about me"

"Not everything is about you!" I lost it, "You're just like what Hailey would tell me about Peter. He always managed to make things about himself and right now you're doing the same thing! I don't know if you've noticed but Barb who also happens to be one of my best friends has also gone missing! First Will now Barb, it's only a matter of time before it's one of us!" I rambled, my voice getting louder with every word, "Now, can you please leave because right now I don't have time to talk about you and me."

"Yeah, sure." He cleared his throat and went back to his car driving off in a hurry.

I sighed as I watched him drive off. Why did life have to get more messy than it already was?

. . .

Ten minutes later, I saw Jonathan pulling into my driveway. He was about to open his door, but I appeared already in the car right next to him. He flashed me a smile and I returned him the same one.

We drove out to the woods. Where I had found the thing and Barb's car. We walked around looking around for anything, calling out both Will and Barb's name with no response, only the emptiness of the day soon turning into night. We've found nothing.

"It's getting late Nancy, we should head back." Jonathan sighed hopelessly

"No." I stopped and looked at him, "I'm not leaving without Barbara, she's out here. I feel it."

"Fine, we'll split up and meet back here in the middle alright?" He compromised and I nodded

I walked to the right as he headed left. I walked about for twenty minutes before seeing a deer that had been found by some other animal. I kept walking and saw the strange shadow figure run by again. I chased it, but lost it. I threw my hands up in the air, I was so aggravated. I sighed and sat by a tree to think, but as I sat down my hand had touched something sticky. I looked and it was some kind of goop that was oozing out of the tree. I looked closer and it looked like an opening. I stuck my hand in, then pulled my entire self through. It looked exactly like the woods we were in, but it felt off. It was colder and dirtier in a sense. I walked farther in and soon stopped when I saw a creature eating at the dead deer. It wasn't like anything I had seen before. It looked almost human, but it's head wasn't right. I started backing away as slow as I could trying not to make any noise, but I stepped on a twig making a loud echoing sound and that thing roared and hissed in my direction. I took off running.
