Landon's POV
4 months later...
After my brain surgery, I spent about another month in the hospital to recover. I thought I would be in some type of unbearable pain but the doctors and nurses made sure I was comfortable the whole time after my surgery.
It's been about 5 or 6 months since I had a seizure and I've felt noticeably better since my surgery. I've once again gotten back to fighting slowly. I still can't take too much contact but I've started all these blocking and defensive trainings so I can better protect my head.
I've got like 5 amateur fights coming up within the next couple of months. By that time my trainer's predicting I'd be ready to fight full contact... and that's what I'm ready for.
"Hey!" Arely came up behind me.
"What's up?" I turned around.
"Damn... I thought I was gonna scare you" she sat her stuff down on my trunk.
I laughed.
"How're you feeling?" She asked.
"I'm good."
"Good, that's good." She smiled.
"Soooo, prom is coming up soon" she seemed excited.
"Yeah... Whatchu wanna wear?" I asked.
"Blue and gold" she answered quick.
"Alright, alright" I laughed.
"We gotta go shopping soon. All the good stuff is gonna be gone"
"Relly, we live in Houston. You can find any and everything you want here... but I'm free, I don't work this weekend."
"Good"
"Yooo, what's good?" Santos and Faith walk around my car.
I also got Santos training with me and my coach. It didn't take us long to figure out that this motherfucker has a mean left like me. My coach had him spar with a couple of people and he fucked them up.
He also have a couple of amateur fights coming up and he's excited about it. Santos meant it when he said he loves to fight.
"We're going shopping this weekend. Y'all off?" Arely asked.
"Hell yeah, you don't have to say shit. We needa go prom shopping" Faith said.
Santos and I looked at each other like what did we get ourselves into.
"What color y'all wearing?" Santos asked me.
"Blue and gold" I told him.
"Red and black" he replied sucking his teeth.
"We all gon' look good" Faith said.
"Baby we should get a limo" Arely grabbed onto my arm.
"Oouuuu yesss!!!" Faith agrees while looking at Santos.
We looked at each other again.
"How much that gon' cost cuhs?" Santos said.
"I don't know" I shrugged my shoulders.
"Look, y'all figure out when y'all wanna go. Me and Santos gotta get to the gym"
"Okay, she was riding with me anyways." Faith said.
"Come on cuhs" Santos sucked his teeth.
We got in my car and drove off.
"How you feeling?" Santos asked me.
"I'm straight. Better." I replied.
"Good... they have to like, dig in your brain and shit?"
"Something like that. They just got rid of the part of my brain that was causing my seizures"
"What them feel like?" He asked.
"Weird... sometimes painful." I told him.
"Damn. But you all good now right?"
"I should be, only time will tell"
Arely's POV
"Sooo, how have you and Landon been?" Faith asked me.
"Good" I couldn't help but smile.
We've been kind of exclusive ever since he woke up after his surgery. Everyday I helped him with anything he needed because at one point he was doing it for me and ever since we've just been close.
He asked me to go to prom with him last week. It wasn't anything all big and special because he knows how much of a private person I am, but it was cute.
"I'm happy for y'all. Y'all little yellow motherfuckers are cute as fuck together and y'all babies... well, they gon' be to die for."
"Whatever" I laughed and rolled my eyes.
"You gon' see" she said.
We decided to stop and get food since Landon and Santos were off doing their own thing at the gym. After that Faith dropped me off at home.
"How was school?" My mom asked as I walked into the house.
"Good, same ole' thing" I told her.
"How's Landon doing?" She asked.
"Good. Seizure free since his surgery" I smiled.
"That's great. You hungry?"
"Nah, I just got some food with Faith"
"Oh. Okay"
I started to head to my room before she stopped me again.
"Hey, when is prom going to be?"
"In like a couple weeks, why?" I asked.
"We'll, your dad and I were thinking about getting you guys a limo. You know something to pop out in."
I smiled from ear to ear.
"Really?"
"Mhmm, we actually already got you guys one but don't tell him I told you... look at it."
She pulled up a picture of an Escalade limo. The interior had black leather seats with blue designs stitched into every seat. They had a mini bar in it that was shiny with crystals and whatnot, it was clean as fuck.
"Damn, mama y'all got this?" I was shocked.
"Yeah! And it wasn't even that expensive" she was excited too.
"Well, I guess I can tell Landon and Santos they don't have to break bread on that"
I went to my room happy as hell. Never did I ever think I would even make it to prom, but here I am. Not only am I going to prom, but I'm going with the one guy I wanted to go with and I can't be happier.
For the rest of the night I daydreamed about how prom might go.
I felt like I was in a fairytale.
It's crazy but, I'm beginning to believe there is such thing as a fairytale ending...
