 Chapter Nine

Siete così bella

Sal and I unpacked our cases after jumping up and down on the beds, exploring the hotel and going for a walk around the local area. We then got into our bikinis and went out to the pool. Laying on the sun loungers, we basked in the warmth of the sun, taking in all of the suns rays. We ordered two drinks and sat drinking them and flicking through magazines. Later that afternoon, we went to the lunch buffet and had a lunch to make up for breakfast - translation: we stuffed ourselves. We then had a good swim in the pool and saw some good looking guys, we even played a game to see who could find the most good looking guy. I won the game. He was in the pool and he was swimming alongside a thin blonde with dazzling blue eyes. He was tall with dark hair, a handsome, bronzed body and a gorgeous face with green eyes that glistened like Green Tourmaline as the sun reflected on its surfaces. Sal smiled and said "Yeah, you definitely win. He is yu-mmy. I call dibs!"

"Seriously?! He's obviously with her, for one, and you don't get to call dibs on a guy, for two. And if you did get to call dibs, then I would get him because I was the one that spotted him. So, ha!" I said, splashing her in the face and swimming under the water. Sal grabbed my leg and pulled me back. I kicked my feet in the water so that I splashed her in the face. She let go of my leg and wiped at her eyes. I laughed and swam away.

After we'd had dinner, we went out and walked on the beach with our shoes in our hands. We took some photos and paddled in the water, getting the hems of our dresses damp. As we walked home, we decided to go to the reception desk and look at the folder that told you about all of the day trips you could go on. We saw that you could book a plane to go to Rome. We decided to book it for the Tuesday.

On the Monday, we spent the day on the beach, tanning, swimming and playing bat 'n' ball. That night, we went to bed early as we had to wake up early to make a day out of Rome. We got on our plane at seven thirty and landed at eight forty five. When we arrived, we laughed and went for breakfast at some cafe. After, we brought a map of Rome that pointed out all of the attractions. Then we went to the Trevi Fountain. I grabbed some spare coins out of my pocket, turned so that my back faced the fountain and threw the coin over my shoulder, making my wish. I wish that Nat and Sal will be happy and find people to keep them happy and give them company, I wished, saying it inside my head. Sal then did the same and looked to see me smiling at her. "What?" She asked.

"Nothing." I replied.

Our next destination was St. Peter's Square. We looked around, taking pictures while posing near the large columns. Then we headed to the Colosseum and took more pictures. After, we went around shops and brought gifts for people. I brought a few gifts for my friends, for Louisa, Nadine and Frances. I also brought a present for Nat and a postcard, like he requested. The postcard had a person pretending to lean against The leaning tower of Pisa while they were really just stood with their arm out. After looking through the shops, we went to a restaurant and had dinner. I had a cheese and tomato pizza and Sal had some type of pasta. We also ordered some cocktails and had ice cream after dinner.

When we got on the plane to go back to Sicily, I was sad to be leaving this wonderful place. While on the plane I fell asleep on Sal's shoulder. When we were back at the hotel, I told Sal that I would meet her in the room after I'd gotten a drink. I walked up to the bar, sat on one of the stools and ordered a Golden glow non-alcoholic cocktail, it had orange juice, lemonade, apple juice and ginger ale in it. When the guy brought me my drink, I handed him my money and looked at the drink. It had a sparkler in it, sugar all around the rim of the glass, a feather on a stick in it and a sparkly straw in it. I sat and sipped it when somebody came and sat by me. I looked out of the corner of my eye to see Mr Tall-dark-handsome-and-oh-so-scrumptious-from-the-pool ordering a beer. I turned my head slightly and he noticed. He turned to me, smiled and said "Hi." He had a bit of an Italian accent, I noticed.

I looked at him and said "Hey."

"I'm Gian." He extended a hand to me.

"Melissa - well, Mel." I shook his hand and we hesitated to let go. When we did, he stroked his fingers along my palm as he did. I smiled.

"Honey bee." He whispered after I went to sip my drink.

"Huh?"

"Your name has a Greek origin and that's what it means."

"Uh huh. And what does your name mean?"

"It's Italian and means the lord is gracious."

"Mmmm."

"Can I show you something?"

"O-kay, sure." I picked up my drink. Gian extended a hand to me and I took it and half jumped off of the stool.

He kept a hold on my hand and led me through a door, past the pool, through a gate that was hidden behind some trees and into a flower garden that was full of twinkling fairy lights. "It's beautiful." I muttered. Gian put his index finger on my chin, turned my face towards his and kissed me. At first, I was shocked but then I started to kiss him back. It was lovely, not like kissing Nat but still great.

He pulled away slightly and whispered "Siete così bella."

"Uh-huh." I muttered, pretending to know what he said.

"You have no idea what it means, do you?"

"Shit no."

"You're so beautiful."

"Thank you, but what does 'Siete così bella' mean?"

"You're so beautiful."

"Can you stop complimenting me? Please."

"Stop playing dumb with me, bella. It means 'you're so beautiful'."

"I'm not playing dumb." I muttered.

"And I'm not going to rape you." He said sarcastically. I was shocked. I took in a sharp breath.

"I have to...go now." I stuttered, pulling away from him and attempting to leave. He grabbed my arm tight.

"You don't have to go anywhere." He whispered, sharply. He started to pull down the straps of my dress and then tried to undo the clasp on my bra. I pulled away from him and pulled my straps up. I then started to walk away, not turning away from him. He came towards me and put his hand over my mouth. I started to scream, but it was muffled, and struggle. He snapped "Silenzio!" and, once again, attempted to get into my bra. As I continued to struggle, he threw me to the ground - hard. I tried to stop myself by putting my hands out but as I landed on my hand, I felt an awful pain and cried out. Gian ran away and I stood up, a tear falling down my cheek. I sorted out my dress straps and went to our room.

When Sal saw me she asked what had happened. "I tripped and fell on my hand and now my wrist kills." I whined.

"I think we should get you some first aid." Sal said, inspecting my wrist. We went to the reception and a first aider looked at my wrist.

"I think you've broken your wrist." She said. She then gave us directions to the nearest hospital. They confirmed that I had broken my wrist and put a cast on my lower arm. Well, that's four of the things on my list I can cross off, I thought as Sal and I walked home.

"Well, that was a nice thing to do at the beginning of your holiday." Sal said.

"Mmm." I said, sighing and collapsing on my bed.
