Chapter Six

Plans

The next day, I woke up and ran to the bathroom needing to vomit. After, I went into the shower, having woken up in a cold sweat. I went to Sal and told her about this and she said to stay home and that she'd call up school. I stayed off school with this fever for three days. On Friday, everything was normal at school and Sal and I went out to dinner.

As we sat at the table, Sal said "I got the brochures. Did you wanna' take a look at them when we got home?"

"Ummm, yeah, sure." I said as our dinner was brought to our table. As we ate, Sal would occasionally say something like 'I've got brochures for Greece, Spain, America, Itlay.' I'd just nod and say 'cool'. Other times she'd say 'I thought we could go for a couple of weeks' I would just say 'yeah, that'd be nice'. There were little mutterings like this throughout dinner and dessert. By the time we got home, it was half eight so I just went upstairs and went to bed, too tired to look at brochures. The next day, I woke up at half eleven and sat in my bed, writing. I wrote about what I wanted to do before I died.

Before I die, I want to...

Go to Italy with Sal,

Get drunk enough to pass out,

Go to the beach,

Sing in a karaoke bar,

Break a bone,

Kiss a tall, dark and handsome stranger,

Make sure Nat understands why I did it,

Make up with Nat?

After writing it, I scribbled out the last one and sighed.

I got changed and went downstairs to see Sal. I then said "Italy."

"Italy?" Sal asked.

"Yep, Italy. We should go to Italy. Use the money we inherited."

"Mmmm, I like that idea." We went out to the travel agents and got several brochures on Italy. We then went to Starbucks, got some some drinks and sat at a table in the corner, looking through the books and sipping our drinks. Sal pulled a biro from her bag and we circled hotels that we liked.

When we got home, we had already narrowed it down to two: Hotel Hellenia Yachting and Naxos Beach Resort. After looking at the ratings online, we chose Hotel Hellenia Yachting. Sal got some paper and started listing what we were going to book.

The next day, Sal went to our joint bank account that held our inheritance from Mum and Dad and took the money we needed to book the holiday and some money to change into euros for spending when we were there. She booked the holiday for two weeks ahead and went to my school. She then told them about my...time left and about how I might have to have days off due to the fevers, back aches and abdomen pain. She also asked them not to tell anyone at school until after I'm gone - on my request, obviously. The school agreed to our holiday and said that they hoped we'd enjoy it.

When that week of school had ended, Sal and I went out of town and shopped all Saturday getting things for holiday. After going into Newlook, we came out with several huge bags. Sal had brought a couple of maxi dresses, a pair of shorts, a couple of tops and some sandals. I got a sundress, a maxi dress, two boob tubes, a pair of cropped leggings, a pair of flip flops and a pair of sandals. After, we went to Miss Selfridge and I got a gorgeous bikini, denim shorts, a few camis, another sun dress, some nice wedges and a playsuit. Sal got a couple of playsuits, some three quarters, some more tops, a pair of flip flops, some shorts and a cardigan. We then went into Accessorize and I got a woven straw hat, some jewellery, another pair of sandals and some hand bags. Sal got some jewellery and a bag. We went into a few other shops and got the few remaining things we needed after. Sal got some more dresses and tops, a few bikinis and a hat. I got a jump suit, a long cardigan, a few skirts and a tunic top. We also grabbed some beach towels, sun cream, new sun glasses, beach bags and travel sickness tablets. Sal and I went to the travel agents when we got back into town and picked up the tickets and luggage tags. When we got home, we got the suitcases out of the basement and took all of the tags and labels off our new things.

"Sal, do we still have our tent?" I asked, Monday after school.

"No. Why?" Sal said, coming into the lounge from the kitchen.

"I wanted to camping with some friends."

"We can get a tent, though, if you want."

I nodded. "Please."

"You arrange it and I'll get a tent. How many people?"

"Six to eight, including me."

"'Kay, considor it done."

"Thanks." I had another one of my 'Before I die' wishes in the making.
