Chapter Sixteen
The sands of time dropping away
The next few weeks were pretty boring. I spent days at home, reading and being ill. I went to school and avoided Nat. Nat and I got an A star on the English project we did, didn't speak in lessons, except when we had to for work, I went home from school several times and had my cast removed. Sal and I had days like when we were younger: messing about, baking, playing and tanning. Lou and I went to the cinema, shopped, teased more delivery guys and got slightly drunk with Nadine and Frances.
That night, Nay, Fran, Lou and I planned a sleepover at Nay's house. We took a lot of alcohol. We watched sad films, drunk, met up with a few extra friends and drunk some more, got Fran's cousin to get us some cocktails in the bar and say that we're eighteen. After that, we'd wandered around town and ended up at the park. Fran was on the kiddy swings and had got her bum stuck, Nay was on a see-saw by herself and complaining about how boring it was. I was on one of the mini horses on a spring and, as I flung myself back and forth on it, I flung myself too hard and flew over the front of the horse, doing a roley poly in the air and landing on my arse. When we left the park, we all staggered back to Nay's house and drank a little more. The next morning, we didn't wake up until three forty and, when we did, we were all racing for the bathroom needing to vomit.
As the months went by, I became skinnier and my appetite lessened. Sal, once again, went to the doctors who said just to get me to take the same pills that they'd given last time. I, once again, refused. When I did this, Sal would sigh, growl, throw the pills on the floor and storm away. I would smirk lightly. As this scene occurred many times this month, I had taken to just ignoring Sal when she spoke to me. She had then started to cry and hide in her room. This annoyed me so much.
That month, I went to the hairdressers to get my hair trimmed. I had the same hairdresser as before. "Oh, darling, you didn't let the guys ruin your hair. That's good." He said, smiling and pulling lightly at the ends of my hair.
I smiled and said "Mmmm, I took your advice.
"What're we doin', hun?"
"Just a trim please." As he did my hair, we had a whole conversation about how I could style my hair differently and stuff like that.
When I got out of the chair, he said "Losing weight are we?" I shrugged. "Well, you're looking gorgeous, love. Enjoy and keep that hair lovely." I smiled and payed at the desk.
