When he always thought he'd have a son but ended up having 6 daughters.
—
I sighed contentedly as I watched my six daughters huddled together in the living room, eyes glued to the screen as they watched a movie. They've grown up so fast. We raised them with all we had and looking at them now, I know we did well.
Jimin, my husband, once dreamed of having a son. But life had a different plan, we ended up with six beautiful daughters. And though he never got the son he thought he wanted, he couldn't love our girls more if he tried.
"Can you call the girls? Lunch is ready," I said, setting down the final dish on the table as Jimin helped me.
"GIRLS! LUNCH TIME!" he shouted. Not a second later, we heard the thunder of footsteps rushing down the stairs.
Here they come.
"Line up," I said with a soft laugh, and like a well-practiced tradition, they all lined up by age. We don't always do this, especially when Jimin's away for work, but when he's home, it just feels right.
"Jiyoung-ah, here's your favorite," Jimin said, smiling as he handed her a plate.
Jiyoung, our first daughter is 19 now. I was pregnant with her before Jimin and I even got married. She'll always be our beginning.
"Iseul," he continued, handing the next plate. Seventeen years old and already so mature, our second daughter.
"Miyoung," he said with a teasing smile, "Guess what this is?" She giggled. "Dad, it's my favorite dish, right?"
"Of course it is. How could your mom and I forget?"
"You always forget, though," I added, grinning at him. "Hey, that's not true!" he pouted, and the girls laughed.
"Nari," he said gently, placing a hand on her head as he handed her plate. Our fourth daughter, 15 years old. Quiet and observant, always in her own peaceful world.
"Yuna!" he called. Fourteen and full of life, our fifth daughter bounded forward.
"And Nayoung, our cutie pie," Jimin said warmly as he handed the final plate to our youngest, who was already smiling up at him. She's 12, and yes... still our baby.
"Dad, is Nayoung your favorite because she's the youngest?" Miyoung teased with a grin.
Jimin chuckled. "You're all my favorites. Equally and endlessly."
"What about Mom?" Yuna asked, curious as ever.
"My answer's still the same," he said, reaching over to squeeze my hand. I smiled.
Looking around the table at the seven people I love most in the world, I felt it deep in my chest, this is everything I ever wanted. Six amazing daughters. One sweet and slightly perverted husband.
My family.
My chaos.
My peace.
Perfect.
