"Come in!" I opened the door after Mr Yearwood said that. I walked in and just like I thought when I was told I was being transferred to New York, my boss is an old man. "Have a seat Miss Adkins." I nodded.

"Thank you sir." I said as I sat down. He finally looked up from his computer.

"Do you like your office?" He asked.

"Yes sir." He nodded.

"I've seen your file and it's impressive. Patrick also wouldn't stop praising you Miss Adkins so I hope you will live up to that."

"You can count on that sir." I said.

"The annual general meeting is in three weeks, I hope you know what that means." I nodded. "That's good then." He stood up and held his hand out for me to shake. I stood up and shook it. "Welcome aboard Miss Adkins."

....

"Kimberly?" I looked behind me and saw an unfamiliar face. "Hi." The woman smiled.

"Hi"

"Oh, I'm sorry. My name is Lorena." Right the colleague I'm going to be working with for the upcoming AGM. As if I couldn't do it alone. I faked a smile.

"It's nice to meet you Lorena." I offered her a seat while I sat down myself.

Now that I think about it, did this woman just walk into my office without knocking?

"I suppose you like your office?" I gave her a confused look. "I helped with the set up since I was excited to finally have a younger partner to work with."

"Younger?" I questioned. I mean she's obviously very younger than me. She looked like she was in her mid twenties.

"Well Fitzroy acted like a grandpa all the time." She rolled her eyes and I found myself laughing, she meant the former auditor who recently retired. "He was also super strict. It was hard to talk to the old man without getting scolded."

"You're a grown woman, why would he scold you like you're his kid?" She chuckled.

"Because he's my uncle and he's the strict and boring uncle that everyone has in their family." She giggled.

"Oh" I was still stuck on the uncle part.

"Sorry, forgot to mention we are related." I was quiet for a moment. "I was interning at that time so that was another factor." I nodded.

"I understand." An email alert made me remember we needed to get work done. "Right, we have work to do." She nodded turning on her iPad.

.....

On my lunch break I decided to drive to my place. It was five minutes away and I loved that about it.

Thanks Logan.

Upon arriving I kicked off my heels and then threw myself on the couch. I looked up at the ceiling and sighed. Flashes of my friends from London came rushing into my mind. Just when I finally started making friends, I had to leave. Everytime I start something with someone or people, I leave.

Stephanie, after she married my dad we barely had a relationship but just a few years down the line and me being in a relationship with someone I loved, I finally started getting to know her better and we started getting along. Well that's until Logan came along and I left. Then Paige, we had an amazing relationship, the best I've ever experienced but I left that as well. I sighed again. So now I have left my friends from London.

Right, the universe must be really enjoying seeing me so lonely and boring.

A call disturbed me from my thoughts. I realized, I hadn't looked at my phone since morning.

"Hello"

"Kim honey, how are you doing?" Dad?

"I'm okay dad how are you?" I smell something fishy.

"Honey your old man is fine. Are you loving your new office and workplace?" I was quiet. "Tell me all about your first day honey. I'm listening."

"The day isn't even over yet dad." Silence "What's wrong?" He sighed.

"Steph is mad at me." He said with a lot of hurt.

"What did you do this time?" I asked.

"I forgot her birthday." My eyes widened.

"Dad!! You forgot your wife's birthday? You do know you've been married to her for more than twenty years right?" He sighed.

"I know Kimberly." I took a deep breath.

"Dad I think you should tell her, it's time she knew." She deserves to know the truth.

"I thought I was going to be able to deal with it but I seem to be failing." He sounded so broken and lost for hope.

"Dad please don't say you're failing. Dr Rashly said we should stay positive." He was quiet. "Tell her dad, let her help too. Imagine how hurt she would feel if you suddenly forgot who she was and she finds out you knew all along."

"I get your point kiddo. I'll tell her I promise."

"Today." He chuckled.

"Yes today."

"I'll call her to check, you better not think I'll just trust you so easily."

"You know I'm beginning to get confused, who is your biological parent? Steph or me?" I chuckled earning a laugh from my father.

"You married her and made her my mom, so deal with it." He chortled.

"Traitor." I giggled knowing he was joking. "You should get back to work kiddo, have a great day okay?"

" Thanks dad, you too. Remember what we talked about okay?"

"I will. Love you honey." I smiled.

"Love you too dad." I hung up still smiling. I stood up and walked to the window. I looked at the huge beautiful buildings I could see before me. Seeing the side of my workplace reminded me I needed to get back soon so I had to eat now before I run late. "Right, lunch."

....

Lorena's POV

"Come in." Dad said and I walked into his office. "Not going to have lunch like other employees?" He said turning his head to face me.

"I'm not hungry plus your wife said you haven't been taking her calls so she ordered me to tell you to stop whatever you're doing and call her." I rolled my eyes and he laughed.

"I'm sorry about that, she can be really demanding sometimes." He fished his phone out from his jacket.

"I can see why you're still married to her. She keeps you on your toes." I said.

"Well when you fall in love with someone one day and decide to marry them, you'll understand okay?" He defended. "Plus, you took a lot from your mother more than you did me so you might turn out like her." I chuckled.

"No I won't. Have you seen how controlling mother is?" He laughed.

"You are her favorite child, does she know you don't like her?" I rolled my eyes.

"You know that's not true." He chuckled while I thought about me being my mother's favorite child. Well I never really cared who her favorite was since she loves us all the same but to find out it's me?

"Are you okay honey?" My father asked.

"Yeah just remembered I need to finish something." I stood up. "Remember to call mom before you find yourself in the guest room after an argument." He laughed loudly. "Why are all the Fitzroys like that anyway?" He giggled shrugging.

"I thought you got along with your uncle." I shook my head as I started walking towards the door.

"He's the worst trust me." I chuckled before opening the door. "See you later dad."
