"No I don't need the office redecorated Bethany, it's good the way it is." I said, annoyed by the ridiculous questions the secretary was asking.
"How about the whole building? Do you want to change or upgrade anything?" I gave her deadly glare.
"Out of my office, now." She quickly rushed out looking terrified after I told her. "Finally some peace." I whispered to myself sinking into my seat.
My father hadn't even had his farewell party and officially announced me as the CEO, yet I was already feeling like I could just run away or something.
Not only was work stress bothering me but a certain woman was. Kimberly Adkins. It had been a few weeks since I last had at least a five minutes conversation with her. I could've sworn we were getting to friendship with the way we were working together when she first arrived but ever since the general meeting day she changed. I mean I barely see her and even if I do, she always has something to do.
I wonder if she's eating on her lunch breaks since the woman I know is always working. Or maybe she's eating at home? Who does she even live with?
"Agh! Fuck this." I left my office and stormed to Kimberly's office. I opened the door forgetting to knock since I wasn't thinking straight. In fact I don't think I was thinking at all.
Unfortunately I was met with an empty office. I checked the time and it was around 3pm. Looking out of her window I found myself relaxing a bit by looking at the view of the busy city. My office didn't have much of a view to gaze upon but then when I'm the CEO I'll have one in dad's office. Similar to this view.
"Ahem" someone cleared their throat and I turned around. "Enjoying the view?" Kimberly asked.
She looked pale and a little tired. She wore a black formal dress reaching just above her knees with black heels.
"It's a great view." I pointed out.
"I see, do you need anything Miss Yearwood?" I tilted my head.
"What happened to Lorena?" I asked taking two steps forward.
"I don't think it's very professional addressing you by your first name, especially since you'll soon be my boss." She said calmly.
"Have you had anything to eat today?" She looked at me confused. "No lunch?"
"Um, I had lunch Miss Yearwood." She said looking at her desk.
"I don't believe you." I walked closer to her. "Let's go and grab late lunch or it might as well be an early dinner." I said.
"I will have to respectfully decline because I ate something and I have work to do." She said.
"I don't like it when people say no to me." I looked straight into her eyes.
"I have work to do."
"Which can wait." I walked past her. "Like you said I'll soon be your boss so I'd advise you to not get on my bad books." I smiled when I heard a sigh. "I'll meet you in the parking lot in five minutes." I said walking out.
Kim's POV
"Took you long enough." Lorena said when I reached the parking lot. I internally rolled my eyes.
"Sorry." I forced out.
Honestly I don't get how someone can be so annoying. Why does she have to care about my health like I was a child?
"Come on, let's go." She hopped in a familiar black luxury car. It makes perfect sense now. The car I always saw when I was working late was hers. I got in the passenger seat. "Have you ever eaten at Dinn?"
"A few times." I answered truthfully.
"That's better." She drove to the five star restaurant and we arrived in no time. Was I hungry? Not really. Instead I just wanted to be away from my boss's daughter. She seemed like trouble. After making our orders I decided to ask.
"Why are you concerned about my health?"
"Why have you been avoiding me?" I almost choked on my saliva.
"I have not been avoiding you. I have just been busy." I said.
"Yeah right." She looked at her phone.
"Why do you act like we're friends?"
"Ouch." She said still looking at her phone. "You know I could've sworn we were kinda friends with how well we worked together for the reports." I rolled my eyes.
"Because you were my partner and I had to be professional and that was it." She darted her daring green eyes to me. For a moment I shivered.
"Professional?" I nodded. "I don't believe you. I think something happened and then you changed your mind about us."
"Us?"
"I meant our friendship." She chuckled and I rolled my eyes again.
"Well you're wrong." I said even though she was right.
After I found out she was the boss's daughter, I had to keep my distance. Not long she'll be my boss and I already know people like her don't have friends like people like me. Rich women don't mix with commoners like us. Or at least that's what I believe. It was just better to save myself the disappointment.
"Tell me Kimberly, who do you live with?" I frowned.
"I beg your pardon?"
"Do you like it when I repeat myself every time?" I rolled my eyes again.
"Who I live with is none of your business." I said confidently.
"I assume you live by yourself." She paused to look at me. "That explains why you don't eat much."
"What is it with you and food? Are you obsessed with food or something?" She chuckled. Of course I never noticed the faint dimple on her left cheek since I've never really been face to face with her like this.
"Well I love food yes but not obsessed with it." Her phone rang and thank goodness she answered it. "Excuse me, I have to take this." She stood up and took a few steps to where she wasn't audible.
I decided to retrieve my phone to check if there was a response on any updates from my stepmom about how dad was doing today.
Mom: He's much better honey don't worry about him. He's getting better everyday. The scar is disappearing as well.
I smiled and put my phone back into my pocket.
