Ah yes, another blackout. The number of panthers in the facility would rise once more to cause terror. But something seemed off. Where were all the humans? When the lights had gone down, the panthers had immediately rushed toward the humans' base, but it was empty. Unlocked, as usual, but empty. The panthers were baffled, until a little blue beam of light shot by outside. The panthers quickly identified it as a pup, beginning to give chase. However, they soon collided with a group of humans, most of them tripping over each other. The humans were armed to the teeth, but what had they been fighting? The little blue bastard caught everyone's attention again.
It looked just like a regular slime pup, but brighter than normal. It seemed to sparkle. The panthers quickly understood that this pup wasn't normal. They looked back and forth from the humans to the slime pup. For the first time, the goal of the humans and gootraxians seemed to line up. Without a word of truce spoken, the panthers charged into battle beside the humans, rushing after the pup as it ran, terrified, through the facility.
Other gootraxians of all kinds watched as the chase progressed, awestruck by the unexpected teamwork of their fellow gootraxians. Of course, none of the other gootraxians had the urge to kill slime pups. Quite the opposite, for some of them. Those gootraxians either refused to watch the event unfold or looked on in disappointment. Humans and panthers only had one thing in common, it seemed. They were incredibly greedy.
The chase had not ended by the time the lights had come on, and a few panthers had given up, simply watching, exhausted, as the remaining panthers and humans waged war on the little blue creature. Every time a human landed a hit on it, chipping away at its physical defenses, they would cheer. Every time a panther landed a hit on it, they would growl with glee. It may have looked like a game to anyone watching, but it was as serious to the humans and panthers involved as survival itself.
Finally, finally, after many hours of this chase, a human sliced through the slime pup and it died. The panthers thought the whole event was over, and they would get to see what flavor of slime pup they had just scored.
Instead, though, the pup turned into a glowing blue box. It was incredibly heavy, and the humans seemed to struggle to pick it up. Suddenly, one of the panthers got a mischievous idea. That panther shared it with another panther, who shared it with some more panthers, and soon they were all in agreement. What if the panthers made this event go on a little longer? Just a silly little prank on their new friends.
So a portion of the panthers in the group walked towards the humans. In a flash, they had grabbed the sparkly blue crate and every panther tore off with it. The humans looked utterly betrayed, grabbing various weapons around them to retaliate.
The panthers had no idea what they had just provoked. They were taken completely off-guard when the army of humans attacked without warning. Sure, tensions between the two species were high, but the humans seemed truly furious.
The whole facility resonated with the energy of an early 2000s COD lobby. Left and right, panthers had multiple humans kicking their asses with various weapons. Unfortunately, most of them were scythes. Sure, panthers were strong, but none of them were strong enough to survive this!
The ones who could retreat did so, leaving behind the diamond crate. Even though the loot was open for the taking, the humans' top priority seemed to be revenge. The panthers who did escape watched from the shadows. They couldn't go back to retrieve their friends, forced to see them all die instead.
It was a harsh reminder to both species that the other could never truly be trusted.
