The sprinklekit stood with its head in one of the mini freezers in the cafeteria, digging around. When it finally raised its head, it had an ice cream sandwich in its mouth, which it quickly devoured.
It took a seat just in front of the freezer, holding the door open with one paw. Its tail wagged slightly, feeling content as the cold air rolled over it. The puddle of ice cream that normally surrounded its feet seemed to shrink, and the gootraxian's form seemed to solidify a bit.
When it heard a nearby door slide open, the creature stood from its cool spot and moved toward the counter at the end of the room to see what was coming.
Nearby, the bathroom door had opened and another gootraxian stepped through it. This one was blue and squirrel-like, also having a puddle at its feet. However, it seemed that the creature was made of soap rather than ice cream, as small bubbles formed in the puddle that trailed behind it. The creature, whom the sprinklekit knew was called a feizao, looked at the sprinklekit and smiled.
"Hey Slip!" The sprinklekit yelled at his friend.
"Hey Pint," The feizao said once he got close to the counter the other gootraxian stood at.
"Did you see that human that came through earlier?" Pint asked.
Earlier, a human had run through the cafeteria, scythe on their back. They knocked over a mochi with their weapon, who gave chase. He hadn't come back since then.
"Yeah, I'm glad they didn't hurt you." Slip said, worried.
"I hope he got them. He still hasn't come back," Pint whispered to himself.
Pint almost smiled at his friend's concern, but his thoughts were clouded by the mochi's disappearance. He hadn't known him well, but he had been a friend to Pint for as long as he could remember.
He shook off the thought that anything bad had happened to the other gootraxian, turning to Slip.
"Or you, you know" Pint added, smiling awkwardly, "I know humans avoid the bathrooms since you and your friends hang out there, but still."
"We could chase 'em away, no problem!" Slip grinned confidently.
"Yeah," Said Pint, letting out a laugh, "You guys are tough!"
"Tough and looking to grow our friend group," Slip added.
The other gootraxian had always been keen on infecting humans who came through. However he knew when to pick a fight and had stayed hidden when he spotted the human carrying the scythe. Most gootraxians stayed clear of any human with a scythe. Humans could easily knock out massive groups of gootraxians and flee before they knew what had happened.
Besides, it could even be fatal.
The sound of a door sliding open made the two gootraxians turn towards the direction of the noise.
Slip stepped out into the hallway to look through the door. When his face lit up with recognition, Pint climbed over the counter to join him.
"You're not the only one who made a new friend while you were gone," The mochi standing in the door said to someone that Slip and Pint couldn't see.
"Brew!" Slip and Pint cried in excitement.
They rushed to meet the third gootraxian, both wrapping their arms around him. He laughed.
"Right on cue, here they are!" He said, beaming.
"I wasn't gone that long, was I?" Said another voice.
Both the gootraxians turned to look towards the still-open door, freeing the mochi from their grasp.
There stood two more gootraxians, one of which was a mochi, and one of which neither of them recognized. She was a pale blue gootraxian, with dark purple ring-like markings all over her body. Some kind of steam or gas seemed to rise from her body.
