There she was again. The human who was afraid of panthers. Of course, she wasn't unique in that regard. Every human was afraid of gootraxians, especially panthers. This one, however, could barely stomach a blackout because the very thought of seeing a panther would drive her insane. She could always be found surrounded by other humans, or alone in her secret place, lit by candles, that no other being could enter without her permission.

That was, of course, until this place was discovered. Immediately, a panther decided to take it for himself, and to take the human down in the process. Such a beautiful room wouldn't go to waste. Instead, it might be the panther's hideout. Then again, he wasn't a fan of the candles in the room, but it was far too much work to put them out. Oh well, he wasn't exactly in it for a secret hideout. He already had several, being a panther and all. No, he was in it so that he could see the suffering of a human. Typical, wasn't it?

So he had it all planned out. Himself and a group of friends would go up there and show that human just how afraid she should be of panthers. He turned to the little gang of gootraxians behind him, just as the lights went out. There were a few panthers and a single buck, without its trademark bucket, who all agreed to hunt down this cowardly human once and for all. It wasn't for any good reason, but just because they could. They saw a challenge and took it. That was the kind of gootraxians panthers, and this one buck, were. Though, perhaps it wasn't exclusive to them.

In fact, on the way to this secret hideout, a nuclear rabbit stopped the group and insisted that he join them. He didn't quite understand what the group was doing, though he claimed to have seen the human enter this secret hideout at least once. That would help them confirm whether the source who had told them about the hideout was correct, so the rabbit was happily accepted onto their team.

Soon, he had pointed out the shelf and found the button used to lower the ladder. Before they all went up, the leading panther had made the others agree to let him infect the human. He seemed very passionate about seeing the fear in her eyes, and the others weren't about to get in the way of that. So, without any further delay, they all climbed up the ladder, after being sure it could support their weight. The leading panther was first. Of course, he didn't intend to infect her straight away. The amount of fear this human might get from seeing an entire gang of panthers in the place she thought was safe would be beautiful. It needed to be enjoyed for as long as possible.

The panther emerged through the gap in the cave's ceiling, silently entering the room. It was much larger than he expected. He peered down the hallway from behind the wall he had emerged next to. At the end of the hallway, he could see the human with a book on a couch. She was sitting in front of a lit fireplace. There was no way she had built all of this, though. When would a secret library even be added to a place like this? The panther's ear twitched as the rest of the gang entered the hidden room. Fortunately, none of them alerted the human. They all seemed to take the place in for a moment.

The leading panther gestured to the buck and one other panther to guard the entrance so the human couldn't escape, just in case. Slowly, the panthers and nuclear rabbit made their way down the hall towards the human. Halfway down this hallway was another room, filled with tables and bookshelves. It seemed this room had not been made for one human after all. Yet, here sat this human, all on her own.

The nuclear rabbit stood in the doorway of this room, claiming he would stop her if she managed to run away. The rest of the panthers continued down the hall until, eventually, the human caught a glimpse of them. She saw an entire group of panthers, the gootraxians she hated the most, crowding the hall and closing her in. She screamed in fear and fumbled for her weapon, a scythe. The panthers didn't expect her to have a weapon, least of all a scythe. Fortunately, they were strong gootraxians and knew they could take a hit from such a weapon easily. They charged at her simultaneously. However, her first swing stunned them all for a moment.

Just before she made it past the four panthers, one of them struck her in the back with their long claws. Again she screamed, now bleeding. Fortunately, she didn't make it far as the big green rabbit grabbed her from behind. The panthers saw her struggling to get away and all leapt at her. They all ended up in a pile on top of the poor human, becoming a black storm of teeth and claws.

Eventually, the human emerged, being held at the throat by the leading panther, who stared directly into her eyes as she struggled. Unfortunately, her strength was long gone. Blood rolled down the panther's arm from one of the various cuts she had sustained. The panther's mouth turned into a horrible grin. He knew that the open wounds would make the transformation just a little bit more painful. Soon, it seemed the human understood what the panther was trying to do, and she began to struggle again. She started to yell.

She begged for the panther to just kill her, rather than forcing her to turn into a monster. Her pleas were ignored. She did not get away before the goo started to spread across her body. It spread from her neck to her chest, slowly making its way over her whole body. The fur began to form a little early, and soon she became a horrible, screaming mass of fur. She didn't stop screaming even when she was fully covered. She only stopped when the pain overtook her and she passed out. The panther dropped her to the floor and looked around.

Most of the panthers in the room had blood on them. The human's blood, of course, but most of them were also wounded from the human's scythe attack. The leading panther picked up the scythe and crushed the handle, stomping on the blade until it was bent beyond use. The buck and panther had left their post at the entrance when the human fell, and they all gathered around the former human.

She was still unconscious and didn't respond to anything happening around her.

"Someone take her out of here. This place doesn't belong to her now." Growled the leading panther, voice filled with disdain.

The buck and panther picked her up and took her away, down the ladder. Meanwhile, the nuclear rabbit was poking around the open part of the library. He seemed fascinated by the cozy little room.

"This place is yours now, if you want it. You knew how to get in, so it seems right to give it to you. Besides, it seems you've earned it by helping us." The panther said again.

"Really? Thank you! You're all welcome here, of course. Except for her, I suppose." The rabbit said, seeming overjoyed.

"Yes, you heard how she called us all monsters. She begged for death rather than strength and power. I almost wish I had given it to her now." The panther bared his fangs in anger, going full shadow the edgehog mode.

The buck and panther reappeared at the entrance.

"We found a place for her in the cave. I doubt she'll even remember this place. If she survives the rest of the blackout, what do we do with her?" Asked the buck.

"I hate to say it, but we could give her another chance. She's not human anymore. She's not the creature that called us monsters. She is a monster now. Just like us. If she rejects us, though, then we'll reject her." The panther said, heading for the exit.

The rest of the group, aside from the nuclear rabbit, followed him out. Once they were all at the bottom, they sent the ladder back up with the push of the button that had let them in. The group did not disperse for the rest of the blackout, though they never found the panther that had been placed in the cave. Most of the group assumed she had died or run off somewhere. It was no concern to them, of course.
