(Natasha's POV)
----------------------
It's killing me not knowing whether or not Marci is hiding something from us. I don't want to spook her and make something go wrong, but I also don't want to continue if there is another person behind a front she's been putting up. A front I'm falling for.
I also don't want to get us in any trouble, because we've gotten this far in the organization being untouchable to everyone. It's nearly impossible someone got in now.
But when guards are let down, anything is possible if you think about it.
I eventually drag myself out of bed and go off to find Marci. There has to be some way I can bring this up. Wanda definitively wouldn't approve of my asking, so I just hope that she doesn't find out somehow. She seems to know everything, unless she just acts like it. This is one of those situations that has to be faced head on.
Walking out of my room, I see Marci's door slightly open, so I walk by it. Knocking on the door slightly and getting no reply, I walk out to the main area. A few people are in the kitchen, grabbing themselves breakfast, and I see Marci doing the same. I walk over to the side of her, thinking of what went down not to long ago.
Unspoken confirmation that we are in some way together. No one's brought it up, probably not knowing where to start.
Grabbing a bowl from the cabinet above my head, Marci finally breaks the silence.
"What are you having?"
"I'm just going for cereal," I reply, walking over to the fridge to get the milk. The cereal's already out on the counter, so I assume someone forgot to put it back.
"What have you got?" I ask, pouring the cereal into my bowl.
"Avocado toast with tomato," she shows me her plate, the sliced tomatoes on top of the toast. Honestly, that looks good, almost like a flatbread type of thing.
We go sit with everyone else on the couch instead of the table, not feeling like sitting on hard wood just yet. We've always had this sort of pattern, some days if someone gets up a good time before everyone else they'll make breakfast but if most of us wake up in a general timeframe, we just get our own things.
Almost as if we're on autopilot, we sit next to each other and engage in the conversation around us, only making my decision harder on me. Everyone is getting along so well with her, and I have to betray her trust to find out something that may not even be true. How do I even begin? Where do I even pull her aside to, it's not like this can be done out in the open.
There's so many factors, so many things that could go wrong, what feels like a million people around me who could be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I don't need anyone else getting hurt because of my actions, they didn't sign up for that.
"Anyone have anything to do today?" I ask, seeing who's going to be where.
"I've got a drop-off in like two hours," Loki replies, explaining why he's already dressed in drop-off clothes.
"I've got one in just over a hour," Thanos also talks, but he hasn't changed yet. He's more of a last minute person.
"Well lucky me then, I have nothing," Marci points out, waving her spoon towards the rest of us.
"Stop showing off," Pietro says in a joking manner, as he joins us in the conversation.
"What can I say," she says back sarcastically. "I'm just lucky."
"Day off, enjoy it, they come rare," I point out, to which everyone nods their head in agreement to.
As we finish off eating, everyone goes their separate ways, preparing for drop-offs or just resting. Maybe this would be best if I got her out somehow, even if it's just in the backyard. Anywhere that's silent, really.
Everyone begins to get up to put their dishes away, and I lag behind Marci a little so I can get her attention without seeming suspicious.
"Hey Marci," I say, so only she can hear.
"Hey, what's up?" she turns back to me.
I try to stay calm, "Nothing, just wanted to talk."
"Oh sure, what is it?"
"Can we go outside?" I ask nervously, to which she nods her head, acknowledging that she heard me.
We head outside to the backyard, which I've always loved too. It's so calming breathing the fresh air, especially when there's a breeze to go along with it.
I begin to attempt to word my question. "So uhm,"
"It's ok, you can say whatever," Marci reassures me, gently resting her hand on my shoulder.
"I'm sorry. There's been a rumor, well not really a rumor just Wanda more so and please don't tell her I told you because she'd kill me-"
"Take a deep breath," she guides me to match her breath, calming me down almost instantly.
"Ok so on any business you have to be careful, you know? So when you came to us with Par 18's I instantly knew it was a good deal obviously. Like how does one just come up with Par 18's? Wanda said that sometimes in business deals like this you just have to take the leap because it's what's best at the time. But there's something I have to admit if Im going to continue," I trail off, knowing that to get anything further out of her, there's no way of doing it without the recording.
Which means telling her what I did, and betraying her trust which I may never get back, and that would hurt. I want to be up front and honest with her but I also need to confront her at the same time.
If it's a yes, somewhere deep down in me knows that probably isn't true, I can have time to warn everyone else or we can come up with a plan.
If it's a no, I don't have to tell anyone about this, and then I can somehow work my way back to getting things the way they were before this.
Probably not possible, but hopefully Marci understands why I have to do this. It may be weird to hope, but I hope she would do the same because it's always better to trust your instincts. I wouldn't trust me if I was her, either.
