"Guess who got a job!" I exclaimed, entering the apartment Mel and I lived in.

"Who," Mel teased from the kitchen.

It smelled good in here, I hope she was making her famous lasagna because it was one of my favorite dishes.

She was a phenomenal cook while I was only average at best.

I could cook basic meals but not, like, a medium rare steak.

That was just too complicated.

"I got a job, Mel," I laughed, enunciating the 'I'.

"I know, I was just messing around. Come here, I'm so flipping proud of you!" She cheered before I went into the kitchen to give her a much-deserved hug.

The first thing I noticed was that the kitchen was a mess.

Every time Mel cooked, it was a disaster to clean up, just like when she went closet diving.

Luckily she wasn't a slob and always made sure to clean up her messes afterward which I appreciated immensely.

"What a good thing that I decided to make lasagna tonight since it's practically your favorite food and we're celebrating you tonight," she declared before stirring something bubbling in a pot on the stove.

"Did you tell Gareth?" She asked.

"Nope, I can go call him now though."

"Okay, you go do that and get out of my kitchen," chuckled Mel, playfully shoving me.

She thought she was Gordon Ramsay.

I made my way toward the living room and set my purse down on the couch after getting my phone out of it.

I dialed Gareth's number and prayed that it wasn't too late in Ghana because I didn't want to wake him up.

Waking someone up via call that could wait.

The faux pas of all faux pas.

Approximately five seconds after I had rung Gareth, the call was answered.

I took that as a good sign.

"Hey, Mia, what's up."

"Hey, I hope I'm not calling you at a bad time," I said sheepishly.

"No, it's 8:31 here so you called me at a pretty reasonable time," he chirped, very much alert.

"I just wanted to let you know that I got the job."

"Wow! How did you get an answer that quickly? Wasn't your interview today?" he asked incredulously.

"I was just as shocked as you are!" I exclaimed.

"You must have really impressed him," he stated, still sounding a little stunned at the fact that I was hired on the spot.

"I guess."

I didn't know what else to say.

"I'm happy it all worked out in your favor," he continued.

"Me too, your best friend seems like a nice guy."

Maybe working for him wouldn't be so bad after all.

"Really?"

"Yeah. We got along surprisingly well," I smiled.

Rafael Montero was definitely something.

I couldn't stop thinking about him.

I still had feelings for Gareth so I hoped the attraction I had felt to his best friend would soon wear off.
