We need to talk," Rafael said in a serious tone after I had put my handbag on the living room couch.

"Yes, we do," I echoed lamely.

He looked at me almost in anger.

"I know you left the building and went to God knows where. Mia, I don't mean to sound like an asshole but why would you go out in public without any fucking security?"

I gaped at him in shock.

"Are you serious? I walked blocks so I wouldn't give away my location. I was being safe."

"What, pray, tell, did you think was so worth risking your neck for?"

"I had to see Mel but I knew if I went with security, she would get suspicious."

"Then maybe, don't go to see her!" He exclaimed, rubbing his hand frustratedly through his hair.

"She would get suspicious. We used to talk all the time and I hadn't seen her for a month. I barely even know what's happening in her life."

"Mia, why are you risking your life for something as frivolous as girl talk? Surely you could lie to her for a little while longer, at least until we eliminate the danger."

"Of course, you would say that. That's all we seem to do these days. Lie, lie, lie!"

"To keep people safe sometimes you have to do that," He sighed, making me even madder.

"Well, I went to talk to her and nothing happened. I was safe!"

"Thank God! Don't you know how easy it would have been to snatch you off the fucking street? Next time don't do anything that stupid, please."

"I ran into Paolo," I said and that caught his attention big time.

"You guys are on first-name basis now?"

He looked livid.

"Hardly. He told me that you lied to me," I spat, willing the tears not to fall from my eyes.

When I got really angry I cried.

It was stupid.

"And you believed him?"

"I don't know what to believe."

"Well...what can I say?"

"Tell me you didn't lie when you told me that he killed your father!"

"I-," He stammered before shutting up completely.

Now I saw him for what he was.

Just a liar.

He had lied to me this whole time.

"So, who was the one who killed him then Rafael?" I asked in a broken voice, wanting him to confirm what I knew with every fiber of my being.

"You don't understand Mia. I didn't have a choice," Rafael pleaded, trying to take my hand but I recoiled from his touch.

"You didn't answer my question, Rafael."

He froze before his eyes got cold, making me think of the iceberg that tore the titanic apart.

It looked so simple and pretty above the surface but it was terribly dark and jagged underneath.

"Fine. I killed my father and I'm sorry Mia, but I don't regret it."

My whole body felt like it was shattered and there was no one there to pick up the pieces.

"I can't stay here anymore," I managed to say before grabbing my handbag and rushing out the door before he could stop me.

I didn't even know where I was going but I needed to breathe and it was impossible to do so around someone that I'd given every part of me, who in return, had deceived me in every sense of the word.
