Rafael's POV
===============

I blinked rapidly, my irises struggling to adjust to the fluorescent lights that were illuminating the room.

I felt sore all over but at least I could move my body again.

I clenched my hand into a fist then unclenched it to check if I really was back in control of my previous lifeless body parts.

"You have some nerve, Raf! You scared me half to death!" My mother cried as she hugged me tightly.

"I'm awake?" I croaked out.

My throat felt as rough as sandpaper.

There was no way that this could be another twisted fantasy that my mind made up.

"I'll get you some water, and let the doctor know that you're awake," She sniffled, her eyes filled with joy.

"What about Mia?" I asked incoherently and my mom's eyes widened in surprise.

Way to be tactical Rafael.

"She actually should be on her way here," She said as she checked her watch and then gave me a knowing look.

I just nodded in response because it physically hurt to speak at the moment.

"I'll be back with the doctor soon," She gave me a quick pat on the hair before rushing out the door leaving me alone in the hospital room.

As I looked around at my foreign surroundings, having no recollection of how I ended up here, the seriousness of the situation sank in.

And somebody was going to pay.

I don't care if it made me a monster, I was almost killed and I wasn't going to let it slide just because I survived.

Just then, the door opened and Mia walked in, holding a water bottle in her right hand.

I was caught off guard by how beautiful she was.

How long was I in that coma because I felt like I was seeing her for the first time?

Her hair was haphazardly caught up in a ponytail and she was wearing a white camisole with jeans and sneakers.

She somehow managed to look better than any supermodel I've ever seen.

As she made eye contact with me she jumped ten feet into the air in fright.

Did I look that terrible?

"You're awake," She breathed in disbelief then ran over to my bed.

"Mia," I managed to say, as she looked at me in awe.

"Here," She murmured, giving me the bottle of water and I quickly opened it and drank more than half of its contents.

"Did you know you almost died?"

I raised an eyebrow at her question,

"That's the first thing you want to say to a guy fresh out of a coma?"

"You make it sound like a coma is like prison or something," She scolded but I could see the hint of a smile playing on her lips.

"In a way, it was, because, for the most part, I could hear things going on around me but my body couldn't move. It was hell."

She frowned at that.

"Your heart stopped."

Before I could say anything so she continued,

"Yesterday, you went into cardiac arrest but the doctor had to use a defibrillator on you which luckily restarted your heart, but they said the chances of you waking up went down significantly, because of that."
