Fifth period; Art class. My final class of the day and thankfully Robin and Steve were there, meaning I had familiar faces around me to calm my shot nerves after my escape from the canteen earlier. What is that guy going to think of me? Gah! I'm such a weirdo, when am I going to learn not to stare like that. Although I hadn't seen any more of those metal heads since fleeing I was still aware that I had embarrassed myself publicly and may never live it down.
"Y/N are you okay? You seem kinda out of it" Steve says jokingly waving his palm in front of my face, bringing me back to reality.
"Oh! err yeah I'm good" I say tucking a stray piece of hair behind my ear "Just thinking about how to perfectly frame this fruit" I say sarcastically while holding my paint brush out in front of me mock trying to find scale in the mound of fruit I had roughly outlined on my easle.
Robin, with hands somehow already covered in paint after mere minutes of set up, jumps into the conversation with "Did I tell you Y/N the band guys are so excited to meet you! Not every day we get new recruits" She elbows me lightly, "They told me to tell you to have an audition piece ready for tomorrow, just anything that showcases your skills we aren't picky" she smiles reassuringly at me.
"So I could play them some rock?" I say hopefully, my voice faultering when Robin starts to make a face, "Or would they prefer something a little more band related?" I add feeling slightly deflated.
"Best to play it safe Y/N, but that's not to say they wouldn't like to hear some Madonna, Blondie, Bowie...maybe even the Beatles." Steve encourages from the side. I like those bands, I really do. But I have to hold back an eye roll at these twos interpretation of what rock music is. I was thinking more; Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Metallica. Maybe if I hadn't made such a fool of myself in front of those metal heads at lunch I would have people who related to my taste of music more.
"You guys are right, I think I have some stuff that'll work, any chance they have music rooms here where I can practice before tomorrow?" I ask skeptically, I haven't seen the music hall yet. But this school, and the town for that matter, are so small I can't imagine them having great facilities for these things.
"We do!" Robin says perking up, "There are a couple of practice rooms by the main music classroom they should be free after school if you want to go practice, I can take you there after class. They even have instruments you can borrow if you don't have your own!" I slowly nod my head with a small smile on my face, impressed by the surprisingly ample music facilities here. "I could really use some practice... haven't picked up my guitar since I moved here".
"Before I forget Y/N, would you like to come to the mall on Saturday? You can meet me and Robin after our shift at Scoops Ahoy, you know the ice cream place? We could show you around a bit, maybe hang out..." Steve's voice trails off optimistically as he watches me waiting for an answer.
"Sure, why not? I haven't got any plans this weekend" I say "It would be nice to get more familiar with my surroundings in Hawkins, and who better to show me around than the two famous co-captains of Scoops Ahoy" I chuckle slightly at the last part, getting a smile from Robin and a slight blush from Steve.

As promised, after class Robin shows me to the music rooms before leaving me to practice. I find an acoustic guitar and start tuning it up, musing on what song I should play for the band audition tomorrow. For band, I would normally be part of the drum line but they didn't have any drums available to practice so I guess I'll have to strum my way through the audition and convince them to put me on drums further down the line if I get in.
Absent mindedly I start plucking out the first few parts to Crazy On You by Heart, getting lost in the melodic guitar and singing softly to it. It's not until I hear the soft click of the door closing that I look up to see the shaggy haired boy from lunch stood by the door watching me, a smug grin on his face as his eyes look me up and down, arms crossed. "I didn't have you down as a Heart girl" he starts in a playful tone.
