The rest of lunch flies by with Steve, Robin and I excitedly discussing the costumes we might choose. I didn't really talk to Eddie, as he was the other end of the table. Although, our eyes did meet a few times as I glanced over to check he was okay.
"Hey Y/N" Steve nudges me as I am discussing the nuances of Moonbeam with Gareth. Steve's concerned tone is really what pulled my attention away from the debate.
"No, no, no Gareth you don't understand, Moonbeam is so underrated!... what more do I need to say other than ENGULFED in ghostly flames..." looking up to see Steve not so subtly tilting his head to the side. He had clearly spotted something he wanted me to see. As inconspicuously as possible I let my eyes wander in the direction of his movements only to freeze when I meet familiar steely blues staring me down from across the room.
"He's been staring at you like that for a concerningly long time" Steve leans in to whisper. Billy tries to beckon me over. Ugh. I roll my eyes big enough for him to see even at this distance, returning to my conversation with Gareth. Glancing over to Eddie again only to notice his stubborn gaze concentrated at the blue eyed boy. He looks pissed. Do I like that he's annoyed about another boy trying to get my attention? We aren't even together, he hasn't even asked me on a date. Sighing, I'm brought back to reality by the end of Gareth's argument.
"... I'm just saying Spirit Guardians is better than Moonbeam if we are talking about spells that can do multiple damage in every round!" turning to Jeff as he brings up cantrips, spurring Gareth into a rant about wasting spell slots.
"What is it with the boys in this school and you?" Steve chuckles lowly in my ear, earning him a scornful look. "What! What? I'm just saying. First Eddie, Now Billy....and I have a sneaking suspicion Ged.... What are you? Cat nip for metalheads" he laughs.
I sigh, looking up to Steve slightly exhausted by his line of questioning. "I'm just their newest play thing I guess"
"What are you talking about, lover boy over there is goo goo for you idiot"
"I'm not so sure" I shrug "he hasn't really made a move to make things more official. Maybe we should just enjoy our time together more casually, not put any labels on it. I mean, I'm sat here in his shirt and he's not really talked to me all day" the look of shock on Steve's face is almost comical.
"You cannot believe that!" He spurts, louder than our previously hushed conversation.
"Believe what Harrington?" Eddie calls curiously from across the table. We both freeze, my eyes widen before I whip my head around to our accuser.
"Steve here thinks A New Hope is better than Empire Strikes Back" I scoff, comically rolling my eyes at Eddie who looks amused. My comment spurring the rest of the table to join in the Star Wars debate.

"You're truly an idiot sometimes Steve!" I whisper shout at him, punching him in the arm once we are out of Eddie's ear shot. "That's twice in one day you've nearly dogged me in with your gossip" I huff.
"I don't understand why you two don't just get together. He's clearly mad about you" he shrugs "no need to be so secretive, you guys are cute together"
"It's not that Steve. I really like him but I just don't want to get overly attached to something that won't last..."
"Oh blah blah! My dad might move us away blah blah I can't get to attached blah!" He tease. "Y/N you're 17 not 30. Lighten up! Just enjoy it while you can!"
Maybe he's right. Maybe we don't have to put labels on it. I should just enjoy what we have. "You're right man, I'm probably over thinking it, You and Robin will just have to help me pick out a sexy outfit to pull him in at this party" I laugh, winking at him before he splits off to go to his class.
